1.

Briefly, share a time when you set a goal and did not accomplish it, and then share a time

when you set a goal and successfully achieved it. Why weren’t you successful in your first

example? Why were you successful in your second example?

An example of a time when I set a goal and did not accomplish it was when I tried my first

business. I was just out of high school with no information or knowledge about effective

ways to start a business. My first mistake was thinking business was easily buying and

reselling at a higher price. I had no business plan and was basically going into business

blindly. It worked for the first month or so but immediately failed after. For my next

attempt at trying business, I made sure to have an appropriate business plan, down to

having someone in the same field mentor me. It is still fairly a new business but it is doing

much better than my first one.

2. Why does effective goal-setting help us achieve goals? What are the characteristics of

good goals?

Effective goal-setting is based on how we plan out the tasks we need to complete in order

to stay on track with our objectives. It clarifies what we need to do next in order to reach

our goal. Short-term goals make it easier to achieve long-term goals. It is just a set of

stepping stones that help us achieve our goals. Setting a realistic goal is the first and most

crucial characteristic of a good aim. As we have learnt, SMART goals are effective in

helping us achieve our goals, SMART being Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic

and Time-bound.
3. Based on your answer to questions 1 and 2, set three goals: one short-term, one mid-term,

and one long-term

My short term goal is to complete all my coursework in due time.

My mid-term goal is to grasp as much as I can as I learn about business so I can apply it in

future.

My long term goal is to finish my degree at the University of the People.
