1. Features
1. Various Measurements Supported.
Not only the usual refractometry and keratometry, but also c
orneal diameter and base curve of contact lens can be measu
red with this one instrument. Thus, measurements of eye and
prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses can be made m
ore efficiently.

Never disassemble or modify this instrument because it may result
! WARNING in fire or electric shock. Also, since this instrument incorporates
high-voltage parts and other hazardous parts, touching them may c
ause death or serious injury.
Ensure that the examinee has not placed his/her hand or fingers u
! CAUTION
nder the chin rest. Otherwise, hand or fingers may be hurt.
1. Do not hit or drop the instrument. The instrument may be dam
aged when it receives a strong impact. The impact may cause
damage the function of this instrument. Please to handle with c
are.
2. An exposure to the direct sunlight or too bright indoor lights m
ay influence on the result of accurate measurement.
3. To connect this with other relevant equipments, consult with th
e dealer about the way to make it.
4. A sudden heating of the room in cold areas will cause condens
ation on the protective glass in the monitor screen and on opti
cal parts inside the instrument. In this case, just wait until con
densation disappears before performing measurement.
5. Keep the objective glass of the examinee side clean. If it was
stained, it may cause on ERROR or inaccurate measurements.
6. In case there is smoke, strange odor or noise on working disco
nnect the power supply and consult the dealer.
7. Don’t use organic solution such as alcohol, thinner, benzene, et
c. to clean the surface of this instrument. It may damage the in
strument.
8. When moving this URK-700, fix the stage by using clamping bo
lt and stage holding knob, always keep power off, and then lift
the bottom of the unit with both hands.
9. If you leave URK-700 without using for certain period, disconn
ect the power supply and protect the unit with dust cover.

3. Description.
3.1 Main Unit.

Automatic measurement
A. To initialize program press MENU button.
B. After User setting is displayed select Auto Start by cursor and meas
urement will start automatically. Then press EXIT button, menu will
be saved and measurement mode appear.
C. When the bright dot enters the inner alignment mark and Model Eye
is in focus properly measurement starts automatically.

5. Measurement
5.1 Continuous Keratometry and Refractometry ( K/R Mode)
In the K/R Mode refractometry is performed after keratometry.

(1) Enter the K/R Mode
A. Press MODE button until “R/K” is displayed on the top of the displ
ay.
(2) Adjust height of examinee’s eye
A. Have the examinee sit and place his/her chin and forehead against
the chin rest and forehead rest.
B. Adjust the height of the chin by rotating the height adjustment kno
b so that the eye of the examinee is aligned with the height adjust
ment mark on the headrest.
(3) Perform Focusing
A. Slide the operation joystick to the left so that the right eye of the
examinee is displayed on the monitor.
B. Ask the examinee to look at the red balloon in the center of the s
cene (eye fixation target).
C. Looking at the monitor, check that image of the KERATO RING is
not obscured by the upper eyelid, if it is covering the ring, instruct
the examinee to keep his/her eye opened wide until measurement
ends.
D. Looking at the monitor, incline the operation joystick to right or lef
t, and turn the operation joystick so the pupil is centered with the
inner alignment mark and focus on the KERATO RING, at the time
adjusted the bar would be appeared above the inner alignment mar
k.
(4) Measurement
A. Press the Measurement button
B. The newest measured result will be displayed on the monitor.
C. According to the 6.1 SETUP Mode you can select and change VD,
CYL points.
(5) Repeated measurement
A. Measurement could be repeatedly performed if necessary.
B. The newest result will be displayed on the monitor whenever meas
ured.
C. CAUTION: before starting the new measurement you have to press
CLEAR button to remove previous data.
(6) Measure the other eye.
A. Slide the stage to the right side and measure the left eye.
B. After both eyes are measured, pupil distance (PD) will be displayed
on the monitor.

(7) Print
A. Press the PRINT button .
B. The selected data in the 6.1SETUP Mode will be printed.

5.2 Refractometry (REF Mode)
Only refractometry can be performed in the REF mode.

(1) Enter the mode.
A.Press the MODE button until “REF” appear on the top of display
(2) Adjust height of examinee’s eye
A. Have the examinee sit and place his/her chin and forehead against
the chin rest and forehead rest.

5.3 Keratometry (KER Mode)
Only the radius of curvature of the cornea can be measured in KER Mode.

(1) Enter the KER Mode.
A. Press the MODE button until “KER” is displayed in the top of the displa
y
(2) Adjust height of examinee’s eye
A. Have the examinee sit and place his/her chin and forehead against the
chin rest and forehead rest.
B. Adjust the height of the chin by rotating the height adjustment knob so
that the eye of the examinee is aligned with the height adjustment mar
k on the face rest.
(3) Perform Focusing
A. Slide the operation joystick to the left so that the right eye of the exa
minee is displayed on the monitor.
B. Ask the examinee to look at the red balloon in the center of the scene
( eye fixation target ).
C. Looking at the monitor, check that image of the KERATO RING is not o
bscured by the upper eyelid, if it is covering the ring, instruct the exa
minee to keep his/her eye opened widely until measurement ends.
D. Looking at the monitor, incline the operation joystick to right or left, an
d turn the operation joystick so the pupil is concentric with the inner al
ignment mark and focus on the KERATO RING, at the time adjusted the
bar would be appeared above the inner alignment mark.
(4) Measurement
A. Press the Measurement button
B. The newest measured result will be displayed on the monitor.
C. According to the 6.1 SETUP Mode you can select and change VD, CYL,
KERATO points.
(5) Repeated measurement
A. Measurement could be repeatedly performed if necessary.
B. The newest result will be displayed on the monitor whenever measured.
C. CAUTION: before starting the new measurement you have to press CLE
AR button to remove previous data.
(6) Measure the other eye.
A. Slide the stage to the right side and measure the left eye.

5.4 Contact Lens Base Curve Measurement (CLBC mode)
Base curve of hard contact lens can be measured in the CLBC mode.

(11) DATA PREVIEW
Press PRINT button after DATA ON to display the latest measurements of
KER mode or REF mode.
select ON/OFF pressing button →/←.
(12) SCREEN SAVE
Anytime you don’t operate the instrument it will turn to the power saving
mode.
select OFF/3/5/10 pressing button →/←.
(13) USER MESSAGE
Enter a message to be printed out with the results of measurement using t
he internal printer in this window..
To display the user’s message select the one and press EDIT button.
Using buttons ←/↑/↓ select message and press SET button. You can edit t
he message using →,←, DEL, BAK buttons . then press SET button again.
Select END and SET button to complete message.
(14) DATE FORM
To setup order of displaying the date.
select YMD/DMY/MDY pressing button →/←.
(15) 24H MODE
to change 12 hour/24 hour time
change 12H/24H pressing button →/←.
(16) DATA
To setup year/month/day
Select year/month/day pressing button →/← and use +/- button.
(17) TIME
To setup hour/minute/second
Select hour/minute/second pressing button →/← and use +/- button.

FOG MOTOR FAIL Turn OFF the power switch and turn on again
after 10 seconds.
Internal error
If the message appears again, consult the
SHUT MOTOR FAIL
dealer.

7.2 Replacement of Printing Paper
Replace the roll of printing paper as soon as possible if the red line appears in the
paper.
Make sure to confirm kind and size of the paper(kind: thermal paper, size: 58mm in
width and 50mm in diameter).
7. 4 Cle a n i n g
(1) Basically, keep this instrument clean. Don’t use volatile object, thinner or benzene,
etc.
(2) Polish each part with a dry cloth containing detergent solution.
7. 5 Whe n Mo v i n g the In s t r u m en t
(1) Turn OFF the power switch.
(2) Disconnect the power cable.
(3) Close the stage holding dial in the clockwise direction.
(4) Move this machine holding the lower part of the mains to keep horizontally.
7. 6 Se r v i c e In f o r m a t i o n
(1) Repair
If problem cannot be solved even after taking the measures indicated in section
7.1, contact UNICOS representative or distributor for repair.
