Answer the following questions:

Q.1 Why did the narrator scarcely get time to think of the captain?

Ans. The narrators scarcely got time to think of the captain because he was busy in arranging the funeral
ceremony of his father and all the work of the inn. Visits of the neighbours and their natural distress too
kept him occupied.

2. How would the captain spend this time after the stroke?

Ans. The captain spent his time in singing as it was his favourite pastime . He clambered up and down
the stairs, walked to the parlour and back again. He sometimes put his nose out of doors to smell the
sea.

3. What did the blind beggar say he would do to the narrator if the letter didn’t take him to the captain?

Ans. The narrator said that he would break the narrator’s arm if he didn’t take him to the captain.

4.What was drawn and written on the card? How did the captain react upon reading the card?

Ans. There was a big black spot on one side of the card .It was a symbol which meant either deposition
or death. On other side, the Card bore a message 10:00 o’clock. The captain sprang to his feet upon
reading the card. He reeled and fell on the floor . He was struck dead by apoplexy.

5. It was the second death I had known and the sorrow of the first was still fresh in my heart . Whose
death is the narrator talking about ? Why was the sorrow of the first death still fresh in the narrator’s
heart?

Ans. The narrator is talking about the death of his father and the captain .The sorrow of the death was
still fresh in the narrator’s heart because his father had died just a day before the captain’s death .So he
could not bear that loss, that pain of the second death too.

message and a black spot . The black spot was a severe punishment. After getting it, he was so shocked
that he could not keep himself alive.

2. I was standing at the door for a moment ,full of sad thoughts about my father, when I saw someone
drawing slowly near along the road?.

a. Why was the speaker full of sad thoughts about his father?

Ans. The speaker was full of sad thoughts about his father because the death of his father was very
recent.

b. Where was the speaker when the above incident occurred?

Ans. The speaker was standing at the door of the Admiral Benbow Black Hill cove.

c. Describe the person who was drawing slowly near along the road?

Ans. The person who was drawing slowly near along the road was plainly blind man .As He tapped
before him with a stick and wore a great green shade over his eyes and nose. He was hunched as if
with age or weakness and wore a huge old tattered sea-cloak with a hood that made him appear
positively deformed.

3. lead me straight up to him and when i'm in view, cry out ,’Here’s a friend for you Bill.’

Ans. The beggar said these words to the narrator.

b. Who was bill?

Ans. Bill was the captain.

c. What would the speaker have done if he were not taken to bill?

Ans.The speaker would have broken narrator’s arm if he were not taken to bill.
