Each stage in the communication process is relevant in making sure that a successful

communication between two people, or even a group, ensues. If any of these stages were to be omitted
or disrupted, the ideas that were meant to be conveyed and the messages that were supposed to be
delivered, will not come across properly. If any of these stages, sender, message, encoding, media,
decoding, receiver and feedback, weren’t properly constructed and thought of, we can’t say that a
communication took place. Being as it may that all of these stages are important, one of the most crucial
things that we should always be mindful of is with regards to the medium with which the message is
being conveyed and translated, which is the media. This could either be through a phone, laptops,
telephones, letters, videos and the like. If problems such as poor connection, low quality videos, choppy
signal lines, slow internet, we won’t be able to communicate well with in our chosen medium. If we dare
say that the sender is distracted while talking to the receiver, the sender won’t be able to say what it
was that they really wanted to say. And the message that passes along to the receiver will be incomplete
or wrong. And this situation can happen vice-versa. With the senders and receivers not being able to
comprehend and understand well, will affect the way that they encode and decode as well. And with all
of these breakdowns, the feedback that results from either of the communicators will definitely be
wrong.

They key to solving these breakdowns in each of the communication stages lies within the very
environment that the communication is taking place. When one is communicating with another person,
it would be best for them to talk in a place where there is light because a lot of what we communicate
can be seen with our body language and facial expressions. So, creating a space where both of those can
be seen and interpreted will definitely help the conversation. They should make sure that when they talk
there are little to no distractions. No one or nothing is noisy, no kids are playing around, no one’s
shouting and the like. It is also important to note that the communicators themselves are ready for the
communication that is about to take place. And that they are really in that moment with the other
person. Because if in the case that any of them are deeply troubled or stressed, that will highly affect
how they can encode and decode, as well as give feedback to certain senders.

We can see just how much all of these stages are important and effective in facilitating a proper
communication with all of the mishaps and misunderstandings that are happening these days. In a time
where we are highly dependent on social media and the online community, the ways that we express
ourselves have become very limited. That’s why it’s become that much harder for us to communicate
with one another and it is up to us to make sure that we make up for all the stages that we are lacking
in.
