MUTIPLE ACTIVITY CHART

DEFINTION:- Where a number of workers work in a group or an individual or

operator handles two or more m/c,their activities have to be
co-ordinated for achieving proper results.It records
simultaneously the activities of all the workers & m/c on a
common time scale & thus shows inter-relatons between them.

TYPES:- A multiple activity chart is of following types-

i) Man-Machine chart – one man handling one job or one m/c.
ii) Man Multimachine chart-one man handling a nuber of m/c.
iii) Multi-man chart-a group or gang doing collectively one job
as in riveting.
iv) Multi-man-Machine chart-a number of persons working on
a computer system.
PURPOSE:- 1) To detect idle times being enforced on m/c & workers.
2) To optimize work distribution between workers & m/c.
3) To decide number of workers in a group.
4) To balance the work teams.
5) To examine the interdependency of activities.

CONSTRUCTION:- 1) A separate vertical bar or column is there to represent each

Subject.
2) A common line scale is provided for all subjects.
3) Activities of each subject in relation to those of the others are
marked in respective columns.
4) A brief description of each activity is marked on the chart.
5) Working & idle times are marked differently on the chart.

ANALYSIS:- After construction the chart it is tried to,

1) Rearrange the work cycle to minimize men or m/c idle times.
2) Simplify the operations.
3) Combine or eliminate some of the elements.

GANG PROCESS CHART

1)Gang process chart is a type of multiple activity chart which
Portrays the relationship of the activities carried out by
Different members of a group w.r.t one another while doing
A job such as riveting .The aim is to reduce idle & ineffective
Time & to improve the efficiency of the gang operations.

2)A gang process chart looks like a man-m/c chart with the
Different that instead of one operator, there are number of
operators or workers.
