Complications Medication Administration

Neuroleprtic malignant stndrome, extrapyramidal 20 mg PO 2x daily
reactions,seizures, headache, constipation, insomnia,
sedation.

Contraindications/Precautions
Patient with history of seizures
History of drug abuse
Renal impairment Nursing Interventions
Patients at risk of aspiration or falls Monitor patient's mental status
Monitor changes in behavior
Assess weight and BMI
Monitor orthostatic hypotension
Interactions
Increase CNS depression with alcohol
Interact with natural product (Kava, Valerian, or
chamomile).

Client Education
Instruct patient take meds as
prescribed
Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness Inform HCP of any thought
Decrease in positive schizophrenia( hallucinations, about suicide, new or worsen
delusion) depression
Decrease in negative schizophrenia( social withdrawal, Patient to sunscreen and
flat, blunted) protective clothing from sun
