Burns Honey Protocol

Country: New Zealand

Continent: Australia
Treatment for: Burns
Secret ingredient: Mānuka Honey

Product Description

We all know that bees make honey. It’s that golden, sweet, sticky stuff that’s

great in tea and used in many of our favorite dessert recipes. Yet, did you know

that honey also has some pretty spectacular healing properties? From myths and

legends, folklore, and all of the way through to modern medicine, honey has been

said to possess healing properties. Allergies, coughs, and skin wounds and burns

have been treated with honey for generations. What’s more, the effects can work

both when honey is ingested or applied topically to a burn or skin wound to help

them heal faster.

Now, with a modern understanding of how honey is made and its true

healing abilities, there is one unique type of honey that stands above the others in

its restorative and medicinal properties. That is mānuka honey, made solely from

the pollen of the mānuka tree, which is indigenous to the island nation New

Zealand.

It is believed that this mānuka honey carries even more medicinal capabilities and

applications than any other single type of honey.

How It Works

As most of us learned in school, bees make honey through the collection of

the nectar from flowers. The nectar is converted into honey by a process of

4
regurgitation and evaporation. There are many species of bee and those that

produce honey are called, unsurprisingly, honey bees. Honey bees use the honey

they make as a primary food source and, in nature, store their honey supplies in

wax cells in their nests.

Honey Cells

Beekeepers, which is the name given to people who essentially farm honey,

usually house domesticated bees in artificial beehives, easing the production and

collection processes.

As a food, honey has a history of being extremely versatile. Since its discovery

in the ancient world, it has been used in cooking, baking, and dessert making. It’s

spread of bread as a snack. It’s used as natural sweetener in beverages, most

commonly in tea, and is a popular alternative to sugar. Honey is also used to

enhance the flavor of many popular sauces today, especially here in America,

including honey barbecue sauce and honey mustard. Honey is also the main

ingredient in mead, also sometimes referred to as “honey wine” or “honey beer,”

which is made by allowing the natural yeast found in honey to ferment with the

addition of water and is usually done over a period of forty days.

One interesting thing about honey is how much its flavor is affected by a

variety of factors. One of the major influences on a honey’s flavor is the type of

5
flower nectar collected and converted by the honeybees. This is referred to as a

honey’s “floral source.” Most honeys commercially available in North America

are blended, meaning the honey is made from a combination of floral sources.

However, some popular types of honey come from a single flower, or monofloral

source. For example, clover honey and orange blossom honey are becoming

increasingly available in American supermarkets.

It is exactly this type of monofloral honey that has been discovered and

cultivated in New Zealand that holds the most fantastic healing qualities of any

other honey found to date. The mānuka tree is a species of flowering plant native

to New Zealand and southeastern Australia. It is often referred to as a “tea tree,”

because some people in New Zealand brew the leaves into a kind of tea drink. The

tree’s sawdust is also considered quite tasty when used to smoke meats and fish.

The wood is also quite strong and is commonly used in the area to make tool

handles. However, by far the tree’s most famous and useful byproduct is the

honey made from the mānuka tree’s flowers. Its medical uses are so potent that

pharmaceutical companies are studying it, hoping to better understand its uses.

Mānuka honey is considered sometimes referred to as “medical-grade honey.”

What makes it so great? Well, all honey has natural antibacterial properties.

This is because hydrogen peroxide occurs naturally in nearly all types of honey.

Yet, in mānuka honey, there is another type of antibacterial, called methylglyoxal

(MG). This MG has been proven to aid in the healing process, especially when

used to aid the healing of burns. There is also an anti-inflammatory agent in

mānuka honey that further aids in the healing of burns. Consuming mānuka

honey, as well as applying in topically to burned skin, can help your body heal

faster and kills bacteria, helping to fight off infection.

6
The Protocol

For best results when treating burns with mānuka honey, take orally and

apply topically. This way your body gets a healthy double-dose of the honey’s

healing abilities and you can actively fight off infection from the inside out.

Mānuka Honey

In terms of taste, mānuka honey is described as being earthy, oily, and

herbaceous, with a strong, rich, and complex flavor. Try substituting mānuka

honey where you might use regular honey. Use this protocol over five days, while

also applying the mānuka honey topically on burned skin, for a five day period or

until the burn begins to heal.

Honey isn’t just good for burns. It also helps suppress coughs and treat

seasonal allergies. Some studies suggest that mānuka honey can also help fight

ulcers and even prevent ingrown toenails. Its healing capabilities are so numerous

that it’s practically magical.

There’s another plant that is often used to treat burns: Aloe Vera. In fact,

many creams and gels you buy at the stores for healing burns contain extract of

Aloe Vera. However, by keeping an aloe plant in your yard or home means you’ll

never need to buy any of those gels or creams again. Simply snap off a small piece

of the plant and squeeze the greenish sap directly onto the affected area of the

skin.

Did you know?

Some people prefer the taste of wild honey to the kind produced in

domesticated beehives. In cases like this, wild bee nests are often sought out,

located through the use of a specific kind of bird called a honeyguide bird. Once

the wild nest is found, the wild honey is then collected.

Honey was used both orally and topically to treat various ailments including

gastric disturbances, ulcers, skin wounds, and burns by nearly every ancient

culture, including the Greeks, Egyptians, and is a key ingredient in traditional

Chinese medicine.

Periodontal Disease Elderberry Protocol

Country: Federative States of Micronesia

Continent: Australia
Treatment for: Periodontal Disease
Secret ingredient: Elderberry

Product Description

Elderberries are the fruit of the Sambucus tree, also known as the elder tree or

the elderberry tree.

Elderberry Blossom

The tree tends to grow in subtropical climates and is widespread throughout

the Northern Hemisphere. However, there are a select few places south of the

Equator where people have been able to grow the elderberry tree. One such lucky

place is in the Federative States of Micronesia. For those unfamiliar, Micronesia is

the name given to a grouping of small islands of the northeastern coast of

Australia. In fact, Micronesia is one of the first places to discover the amazing

ability of the elderberry fruit to help cure gum diseases like periodontal disease.

Some of the first in the world to discover this amazing capability, the

10
Micronesians discovered that the elderberry are extremely good at killing

harmful mouth bacteria, the kind that cause bad breath and can lead to gum

diseases and tooth decay. Yet, it has been seen, that the elderberry also somehow

leaves the necessary bacteria that is important for a healthy mouth.

How It Works

Periodontal disease is actually a blanket term that refers to any illness relating

to the gums or oral cavity. Such a disease occurs when there is an overabundance

of harmful bacteria or other microorganisms that disrupt the natural digestive

enzymes in saliva are allowed to infect the tissues of the mouth. Symptoms of

periodontal diseases include lesions, discoloring of the gums or teeth, soreness,

and an increase in bleeding when brushing. By far the most common periodontal

disease is gingivitis.

Gingivitis is characterized by an inflammation of the gum tissue. This is

usually caused by an abundance of an oral-specific bacterium that clings to teeth;

this bacterium is commonly referred to as “plaque.” Besides inflammation,

gingivitis also generally causes swollen gums that often have a bright red or

purplish color. Gums are usually tender or painful to the touch and

brushing/flossing will cause the gums to bleed. A common side effect of gingivitis

is halitosis, also known as bad breath. Gingivitis is normally easily treatable, and

even commonly avoidable, with good oral hygiene. However, if left untreated,

gingivitis can progress into periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a much more serious periodontal disease. It occurs when the

inflammation in the gums results in permanent tissue damage. In turn, this causes

what’s known as “bone resorption” to occur to the effected teeth. What this means

is that there is an active breaking down of the bones of the teeth because of the

bacteria. With this begins to occur, more often than not the effected tooth has to

removed. Such a breaking down of the teeth can also cause an above-average

11
amount of calcium to be transferred to the bloodstream, which can lead to other

serious health issues.

Luckily, none of this ever needs to come to such drastic ends. Under most

circumstances, simply brushing and flossing twice a day and using mouthwash—

or as your dentist recommends—is enough to keep gingivitis, periodontitis, and

other periodontal diseases at bay. However, this is unfortunately not always the

case. Sometimes more is required of you. This is due in part to the fact that many

oral hygiene products today do not work as well as they advertise. Even products

marketed as “natural” that are sold at some health food stores aren’t as effective

as they could be. Plus, many of those products sold a health food stores are not

priced affordably for every consumer.

Elderberries on branch

Sometimes, what your body needs is a truly and literally natural remedy. In

the case of periodontal diseases, if you’re suffering from gingivitis or something

similar, what you really need is elderberry. Not only is it one hundred percent

natural, it is proven to kill harmful bacteria that builds up in the teeth, such as

plaque. No matter the way you choose to take elderberry—eating whole berries,

adding it to smoothies or yogurt, or brewing the berries and leaves into tea—you

are taking an active stand against the harmful plaque bacteria that causes

periodontal diseases like gingivitis.

12
The Protocol

Try out this five-day protocol and see if elderberry can help you fight off

plaque, clean your teeth, and even freshen your breath. After these five days,

you’ll be able to noticeable difference in the overall health of your gums and

13
Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

Please note that if more traditional oral hygiene methods are working for you,

do not feel obligated to stop using them. However, if they aren’t—or if you simply

want to take an even stronger and more natural approach to oral care in

conjunction with your brushing and flossing, then try elderberry. There are also

many other natural approaches to killing plaque and fighting off periodontal

disease. For example, chewing raw garlic is proven to kill plaque and clean teeth

(though it doesn’t help so much on the fresh breath front). Also, try applying

baking soda directly to your toothbrush and brushing with that. It’s proven to

whiten teeth, fight plaque, and freshen breath.

Also, avoid smoking of any kind. Even tobacco and marijuana are terrible for

the gums. This is because of the concentration of free radicals and carbon brought

into the mouth by any kind of smoke causes chemical reactions that damage gum

and teeth cells and deplete vitamins and minerals in the mouth.

Did you know?

The elder tree features extensively in folklore around the world, wherever the

tree can be found. What’s interesting, though, is how conflicting the stories

surrounding the tree are. For example, in some areas, the elder tree was believed

to ward off the influence of evil and protected the area around it from witches. Yet

other places held that witches specifically chose to congregate under the elder

tree, especially when the tree was full of fruit. Still others believed that, if an elder

tree was cut down, then a spirit known as the “Elder Mother” would be released

and take her revenge on those who chopped the tree. In this case, an elder tree

could only safely be cut down while chanting a rhyme to the Elder Mother.

The Conjunctivitis Honey Protocol

Country: Vietnam
Continent: Asia
Treatment for: Conjunctivitis
Secret ingredient: Honey

Product Description

Pink eye is a common eye condition that strikes more than 10 million

Americans a year. Also called conjunctivitis, this ailment is an inflammation or

infection of the transparent membrane (conjunctiva) that lines your eyelid and

covers the white part of your eyeball. When small blood vessels in the conjunctiva

become inflamed, they're more visible. This is what causes the whites of your eyes

to appear reddish or pink. Though pink eye can be irritating, it rarely affects your

vision. Treatments can help ease the discomfort of pink eye. Because pink eye can

be contagious, early diagnosis and treatment can help limit its spread. The most

common pink eye symptoms include:

• Redness in one or both eyes

• Itchiness in one or both eyes

• A gritty feeling in one or both eyes

• A discharge in one or both eyes that forms a crust during the night that

may prevent your eye or eyes from opening in the morning

I once contracted pink eye while traveling through Southeast Asia. Catching

minor ailments are a regular part of traveling, especially in that part of the world.

For me, these occurrences are opportunities to learn. I did what I always do and

looked around for an effective home cure. Well, I found a good one.

15
The woman at the desk of the hotel I was staying at told me that her mother

used to create a concoction out of local honey and put it in their eyes to clear up

the pink eye. It sounded like just the kind of cure I was looking for. She called up

her mother to get the recipe and I gave it try and my pink eye cleared up just as I

wanted it to. Follow the recipe below and use an eye dropper to apply the

concoction.

Ingredients:

1/4 teaspoon raw honey

1/4 cup pure water

1 pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions:

Dissolve raw honey and optional salt in pure warm water. Don’t get the water

too hot or it may destroy some of the beneficial properties of the water. If your

water is not super pure (reverse osmosis, distilled, etc.), consider boiling it and

allowing it to cool before creating your mixture. Using a clean dropper, place a 1-2

drops in each eye every few hours as needed.

How It Works

At the beginning of my career, I was involved with a clinical study in which

they used honey in oral rehydration and topical disinfectant. Our aim was

twofold:

• Determine whether honey might affect the duration of acute infection

• Evaluate honey as a glucose substitute in rehydration

We found that honey shortens the duration of bacterial infections and that

honey does not prolong non-bacterial infections. We also determined that the

golden substance may safely be used as a substitute for glucose in rehydration

solution containing electrolytes.

16
There have been other studies in which people have reported positive effects

of honey in treating pink eye. They found that honey is as effective with staph

infections as taking antibiotics. However, the honey taken orally failed to alleviate

the symptoms in the study. Therefore, I suggest that you try topically applying

the honey in the methods I spell out below. Soon after applying the honey, you

will begin to feel better.

In 2010, scientists from the Academic Medical Center at the University of

Amsterdam reported in FASEB Journal that honey's ability to kill bacteria lies in a

protein called defensin-1. 5. A study published in the journal Microbiology

revealed that Manuka honey is effective at treating chronic pink eye infections

and may even prevent them from developing in the first place.

A review published in The Cochrane Library indicated that honey may be

able to help heal the most serious eye infections. The lead author of the study said

that "topical honey is cheaper than other interventions, notably oral antibiotics, which are

often used and may have other deleterious side effects." However, it should be stressed

that the honey should be relatively fresh to have the best effect. In fact, a study

published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases concluded that applying year-old

honey to wounds of patients has no advantage over normal antibiotic among

patients undergoing treatment.

The Protocol

To really clear up your pink eye, follow the honey in your eyes protocol, it’s

better to make sure you eat well and to improve your blood circulation. Here are

my recommendations to you, for a 5-day the honey in your eyes protocol. If your

pink eye does not clear up after a week, you should see a doctor right away. You

can follow the protocol from Monday to Friday. You can quit it during the

weekends.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

To boost the eye-healing effects of the honey in your eye protocol, consider

having a cup of chamomile tea a couple of times a day as well. According the

National Institute for Natural Vision, “Calendula, chamomile, fennel and/or

eyebright teas can be used to make hot compresses. Eyebright can also be taken

orally in capsule or tea form. It is good for any eye irritation or inflammation. The

tea can also be used to rinse the eyes.

They do caution that you should use chamomile or calendula if you are

allergic to ragweed. Some sources, such as Prescription For Nutritional Healing,

say not to use during pregnancy or nursing. However, many herbalists and OB-

GYN’s say chamomile is perfectly fine during pregnancy and while nursing. Some

people add a little salt to their tea as it brews to boost the astringent quality of the

poultice.

Did you know?

Over four thousand years ago, honey was used as a traditional ayurvedic

medicine, where it was thought to be effective at treating material imbalances in

the body. In pre-Ancient Egyptian times, honey was used topically to treat

wounds. Egyptian medicinal compounds more than five millennia ago used

honey. The ancient Greeks believed that the consuming honey could help make

you live longer. Even the Prophet Mohammed glorified the healing powers of

honey. The Quran also praises honey's healing ability.

The Dandruff Tea Tree Oil Protocol

Country: Russia
Continent: Asia
Treatment for: Dandruff
Secret ingredient: Tea Tree Oil

Product Description

Busy schedules and commitments have become such a common part of our

life that often it is hard to take care of the healthy skin and scalp. Due to this,

many people are facing many scalp problems. In my practice, I was often shocked

at how many people with skin ailments in their scalp. Vibrant hair requires

healthy scalp and for this, I recommend a common Russian treatment I came

across while traveling through Eastern Europe many years ago. It involves tea

tree oil, which helps a lot to get rid of the scalp problems and to keep your scalp

and hair healthy and beautiful.

Dandruff is not a big problem in Russia, which is curious since the weather is

often cold and dry. Tea tree oil is an essential oil that has been obtained by steam

distillation of the leaves of the melaleuca alternifolia, a plant. Treating scalp

problems is one among the multitude of first aid and household uses of tea oil in

Russia. Use this protocol to learn how to apply it on the scalp to prevent many

scalp problems.

How It Works

The best remedy for all types scalp problems is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil acts as

anti-fungal that kills the bacteria causing the over production of the skin cells

which creates white flakes called dandruff. Tea tree oil contains terpinen-4-ol that

has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that helps to treat scalp problems.
20
When applied on scalp, it penetrates the hair follicles, unclogs them and kills

microorganisms that trigger dandruff, itchy scalp and irritation.

It has powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help to

treat itchy scalp effectively. It moisturizes the hair and scalp and it helps to get rid

of the dead skin cells and dirt on the scalp thereby creating a favorable

environment for healthy hair growth and scalp.

It is a natural germicide and antiseptic that kills all the germs which causes

the scalp and hair problems. It unclogs sebum blocking the hair follicles and then

clearing up bacterial and fungal infections. It also removes the excess oil and other

dirt particles to make your hair shiny and healthy.

Maintaining a healthy hair or scalp can be an intricate process. You may have

tried several hair treatments with no noticeable or significant results. With the

antiseptic capabilities of this oil and many other benefits, one cannot go wrong

choosing this wonderful natural oil for the best care of hair and scalp. Hair is

susceptible to damage by various environmental elements including smoke, dust,

exposure to sun, wind and harmful chemicals like color, lighteners, hair products

and more. That’s why you need to properly wash and condition your hair and

scalp with gentle and harmless products that promote healthy growth and

prevent damage, thinning and breakage. Overuse of normal shampoos and

conditioners contain harmful and harsh chemicals and their regular use could end

up damaging your hair instead of nourishing, invigorating and making it

healthier and stronger. Many shampoos and conditioners are loaded with fillers

and polymers or dyes and fragrance to make them more appealing to the

consumer. These fillers, polymers and additives may be harmful and damaging to

hair and scalp. This is an additional benefit of using tea tree oil. It is much gentler

not only to your scalp but your hair follicles as well.

21
The Protocol

I’ve found that for the best effects it is good to mix the tea tree oil with carrier

oil. To do this, take a small application bottle and fill it with 3/4 full of any carrier

oil like jojoba oil, olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, etc. Add 10 -15 drops of tea

tree oil in it and mix it well. Apply this to your scalp and hair and massage it

gently for few minutes to make oil saturated all over the scalp. Leave it for few

hours or overnight (for better results). You will feel some tingling effect on your

scalp but don’t worry about it. Wash your hair with shampoo and apply

conditioner. This process helps to keep all your scalp problems at bay.

For the best results, you can repeat for maximum one month. You can follow

the protocol from Monday to Friday. You can quit it during the weekends and

start again on Monday. Nevertheless, you can follow the protocol for 5 days in a

row and then stop for two days, just to start it again after.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

To boost the effectiveness of this protocol, try combining it with some of these

natural treatments:

Your kitchen could hold the key to an itch-free, flake-free scalp. Wet your hair

and then rub a handful of baking soda vigorously into your scalp. Skip the

shampoo and go right to rinsing. Baking soda reduces overactive fungi that can

cause dandruff. Your hair may get dried out at first, but after a few weeks your

scalp will start producing natural oils, leaving your hair softer and free of flakes.

23
I also swear by apple cider vinegar as a dandruff treatment, as the acidity of

apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for yeast to

grow. Mix a quarter cup apple cider vinegar with a quarter cup water in a spray

bottle and spritz on your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel and let sit for 15

minutes to an hour, then wash your hair as usual. Do this twice a week.

To treat a bad case of dandruff, wash your hair with your regular shampoo,

then rinse with an alcohol-based mouthwash. Follow with your regular

conditioner. Mouthwash's anti-fungal properties help prevent dandruff-causing

yeast from growing.

Coconut oil is an inexpensive "tried and true" dandruff treatment, and it

smells nice too. Before showering, massage 3-5 tablespoons of coconut oil into

your scalp and let sit for about an hour. Shampoo normally. You can also look for

a shampoo that already contains coconut oil.

Dandruff relief may be no farther away than your refrigerator. Just massage 2

tablespoons lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water. Then stir 1 teaspoon

lemon juice into 1 cup water and rinse your hair with it. Repeat this daily until

your dandruff disappears. Lemon's acidity helps balance the pH of your scalp,

which helps keeps dandruff at bay.

The abrasiveness of ordinary table salt works great for scrubbing out

dandruff flakes before you shampoo. Grab a saltshaker and shake some salt onto

your dry scalp. Then work it through your hair, giving your scalp a massage.

You'll find you've worked out the dry, flaky skin and are ready for a shampoo.

Stop yourself from scratching by massaging aloe vera into your scalp before

shampooing. The cooling effects of aloe vera will soothe the itch.

Garlic's anti-fungal properties are perfect for eliminating dandruff-causing

bacteria. Crush garlic and rub it into your scalp. To avoid that potent smell,

24
healwithfood.org suggests mixing crushed garlic with honey and massaging into

the scalp before washing as usual.

Did you know?

If you have tea tree oil leftover after you have cured your dandruff, don’t fret.

There are many uses for this amazing substance. It also helps heal and soothe

sunburns. It also heals skin infections naturally and relieves itchiness from rashes

as well as helps reduce rashes. It can be used as an all-purpose cleaner. Fill a spray

bottle with 1-2 tsp. of tea tree oil and the rest of the bottle with water. You can also

rub a little on your skin to treat acne. In addition to all that, it helps to prevent lice

naturally; just add a few drops to your shampoo. You can also put a few drops in

your pets’ crates or beds keep the fleas away. To remove ticks, just add to skin,

and the little stinker will usually unlatch. Tea tree oil also cures toenail fungus

and Athlete’s foot. It helps remove skin tags and naturally cures bad breath.

(Swish some tea tree oil and water in your mouth.) It has been found as an

effective treatment for warts and it soothes insect bites. It treats ringworm and

relieves asthma or other breathing conditions when a few drops are added to a

humidifier.

The Snoring Peppermint Protocol

Country: Costa Rica

Continent: North America
Treatment for: Snoring
Secret ingredient: Peppermint

Product Description

If you ever find yourself walking through the streets of any small village in

Costa Rica, you will be struck by the silence, even with the thin walls of the huts.

This is because the small country has figured out how to prevent snoring with this

natural remedy. Many factors, such as the anatomy of your mouth and sinuses,

alcohol consumption, allergies, a cold, and your weight, can lead to snoring.

When you doze off and progress from a light sleep to a deep sleep, the

muscles in the roof of your mouth (soft palate), tongue and throat relax. The

tissues in your throat can relax enough that they partially block your airway and

vibrate. And, the more narrowed your airway, the more forceful the airflow

becomes. This causes tissue vibration to increase, which causes your snoring to

grow louder.

The following conditions can affect the airway and cause snoring:

Your mouth anatomy. Having a low, thick soft palate can narrow your

airway. People who are overweight may have extra tissues in the back of their

throat that may narrow their airways. Likewise, if the triangular piece of tissue

hanging from the soft palate (uvula) is elongated, airflow can be obstructed and

vibration increased.

27
Alcohol consumption. Snoring also can be brought on by consuming too

much alcohol before bedtime. Alcohol relaxes throat muscles and decreases your

natural defenses against airway obstruction.

Nasal problems. Chronic nasal congestion or a crooked partition between

your nostrils (deviated nasal septum) may contribute to your snoring.

Sleep apnea. Snoring also may be associated with obstructive sleep apnea. In

this serious condition, your throat tissues partially or completely block your

airway, preventing you from breathing. Sleep apnea often is characterized by

loud snoring followed by periods of silence when breathing stops or nearly stops.

Eventually, this reduction or pause in breathing may signal you to wake up, and

you may awaken with a loud snort or gasping sound. You may sleep lightly due

to disrupted sleep. This pattern of breathing pauses may be repeated many times

during the night.

People with sleep apnea usually experience periods when breathing slows or

stops at least five times during every hour of sleep.

If you suffer from snoring, I suggest using a home remedy I discovered while

vacationing in Costa Rica many years ago. It involves gargling with a homemade

peppermint mouthwash.

How It Works

Peppermint essential oil has so many uses, it's no wonder this oil is a staple in

many medicine cabinets in Costa Rica. And it certainly does much more than

freshen your breath! It's used to soothe nausea and other stomach issues, perk the

senses up before a long meeting, and cool overworked muscles (thanks to the

menthol). Luckily, peppermint also helps to clear congestion, quiet headaches and

tackle symptoms from PMS. But in terms of snoring, the peppermint shrinks the

lining of your nose and throat. This is especially effective if your snoring is a

temporary condition caused by a head cold or an allergy.

28
It is important to note that peppermint essential oil is intense and far more

concentrated than other essential oils. The topical application of peppermint oil is

generally safe, although it is necessary to dilute with a carrier oil like almond or

jojoba oil. It is advised that some people may experience a burning sensation or

allergic rash, especially with sensitive skin. And more importantly, it is never

advised to use on young children.

To make the mouthwash, do the following:

• 1 cup water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 3 drops peppermint essential

oils.

• Mix all ingredients in a glass jar and shake well. Swish in mouth, then

spit out.

• Store on bathroom counter.

The Protocol

To relieve your snoring, use the homemade mouthwash and follow the

advice in the Booster section below. Here are my recommendations to you, for a 5-

day protocol that you can repeat for maximum one month. You can follow the

protocol from Monday to Friday. You can quit it during the weekends and start

again on Monday. Nevertheless, you can follow the protocol for 5 days in a row

and then stop for two days, just to start it again after.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

To boost the effectiveness of the Costa Rican Peppermint Protocol, try adding

some of these inexpensive solutions to your lifestyle:

30
Change your sleep position. Lying on your back makes the base of your

tongue and soft palate collapse to the back wall of your throat, causing a vibrating

sound during sleep. Sleeping on your side may help prevent this. A body pillow

(a full-length pillow that supports your entire body) provides an easy fix. It

enables you to maintain sleeping on your side and can make a dramatic

difference. Taping tennis balls to the back of your pajamas can also stop you from

sleeping on your back. Or you can recline the bed with the head up and extended,

which opens up nasal airway passages and may help prevent snoring. This may

cause neck pain, however. If snoring continues regardless of the sleep position,

obstructive sleep apnea may be a cause.

Lose weight. Weight loss helps some people but not everyone. Thin people

snore, too. But if you've gained weight and started snoring and did not snore

before you gained weight, weight loss may help. If you gain weight around your

neck, it squeezes the internal diameter of the throat, making it more likely to

collapse during sleep, triggering snoring.

Avoid alcohol. Alcohol and sedatives reduce the resting tone of the muscles in

the back of your throat, making it more likely you'll snore. Drinking alcohol four

to five hours before sleeping makes snoring worse. People who don't normally

snore will snore after drinking alcohol.

Practice good sleep hygiene. Poor sleep habits (also known as poor sleep

"hygiene") can have an effect similar to that of drinking alcohol. Working long

hours without enough sleep, for example, means when you finally hit the sack

you're overtired. You sleep hard and deep, and the muscles become floppier,

which creates snoring.

Open your nasal passages. If snoring starts in your nose, keeping nasal

passages open may help. It allows air to move through slower. Imagine a narrow

garden hose with water running through. The narrower the hose, the faster the

water rushes through. Your nasal passages work similarly. If your nose is clogged
31
or narrowed due to a cold or other blockage, the fast-moving air is more likely to

produce snoring. A hot shower before you go to bed can help open nasal

passages. Also, keep a bottle of saltwater rinse in the shower. Rinse your nose out

with it while you're showering to help open up passages. Nasal strips may also

work to lift nasal passages and open them up -- if the problem exists in your nose

and not within the soft palate.

Change your pillows. Allergens in your bedroom and in your pillow may

contribute to snoring. When did you last dust the overhead ceiling fan? Replace

your pillows? Dust mites accumulate in pillows and can cause allergic reactions

that can lead to snoring. Allowing pets to sleep on the bed causes you to breathe

in animal dander, another common irritant. If you feel fine during the day but

obstructed at night, these things may be contributing to your snoring. Put your

pillows in the air fluff cycle once every couple weeks and replace them every six

months to keep dust mites and allergens to a minimum. And keep pets out of the

bedroom. Beware before spending money on special pillows designed to prevent

snoring. They may work if it props up your head, which fixes nasal issues, but can

cause neck pain.

Drink plenty of fluids. Secretions in your nose and soft palate become stickier

when you're dehydrated. This can create more snoring. According to the Institute

of Medicine, healthy women should have about 11 cups of total water (from all

drinks and food) a day; men require about 16 cups.

Overall, get enough sleep, sleep on your side, avoid alcohol before bedtime and

take a hot shower if nasal passages are clogged. These simple practices can make a

huge difference in reducing snoring.

32
Did you know?

You may consider adding a peppermint plant or two to your herb garden.

The entire plant contains menthol, an organic compound with local anesthetic

properties which provides a wonderful cooling sensation while it naturally

alleviates discomfort. It also has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory,

insecticidal, antispasmodic and carminative properties.

Peppermint is thought to have originated in Northern Africa and the

Mediterranean area. Ancient Egyptians were using it for calming stomach pains.

The plant has been introduced to Europe in the 13th century and become popular

for its healing properties in the Middle Ages. When European settlers came to

America, they found that the American Indians were already aware of the

importance of mind and brought with them peppermint, which was rapidly

naturalized and spread.

The Tooth Decay Mineralizing Toothpaste Protocol

Country: Guatemala
Continent: North America
Treatment for: Tooth decay
Secret ingredient: Mineralizing Tooth Paste

Product Description

There is a common belief today about cavities that once you have tooth

decay, that cavity CANNOT be reversed or healed. Then the only solution is to

have part of your tooth drilled out and filled with a synthetic material. In fact, this

was my assumption for a long time. However, once when I was traveling through

Central America, I had a cavity coming on and I knew that I would have to have it

filled as soon as I made it back to the United States. I mentioned this to one of my

traveling companions, a juggler from Guatemala, and he just laughed at me. He

gave me the recipe that you will find in the protocol below and told me to use it

for five days. I must say, the results were rather amazing. The tooth pain I was

experiencing went away and on my next trip to the dentist, he happily informed

me that I wouldn’t need a filling after all.

But how could this be? According to a study published in the British Medical

Journal, cavities and tooth decay could potentially be healed or reversed with

diet. A study was performed on 62 children with cavities and they were divided

into three different diet groups. Group 1 ate a standard diet plus oatmeal (rich in

phytic acid). Group 2 consumed their normal diet and supplemented with

vitamin D. Group 3 ate a grain-free diet and took vitamin D.

The results found that group 1 who had a diet high in grains and phytic acid

had an increase in cavities. Group 2 had improvements in cavities and less form.

34
Group 3 who followed a grain-free diet rich in vegetables, fruits, meat, milk

and took vitamin D saw the greatest improvements in which nearly all cavities

healed. This study along with the backing of many doctors and dentists is proving

we have been misinformed about what causes cavities and if they can truly be

reversed. What this shows is that it is indeed possible to undo a cavity. And I can

vouch for the efficacy of the protocol spelled out below.

How It Works

Ramiel Nagel, who authored the book Cure Tooth Decay, believes that you

can prevent and heal cavities with nutrition. To understand the link between diet

and tooth decay we must start with one of the most well-respected dentists who

ever lived Weston A. Price.

West A. Price lived in the early 1900’s and was the chairman of the National

Dental Association (1914-1923), and a pioneer for the American Dental

Association. Like me, he traveled the world searching to discover what causes

tooth decay. Dr. Price found a common link between eating modern foods and

cavities. He witness that many indigenous isolated tribes in Guatemala had

perfect teeth and little tooth decay. But once they were exposed to a western diet

they experienced tooth decay, bone loss and chronic illness. However, he too

found several tribes who had discovered the magic of mineralizing tooth pastes.

According to the American Dental Association diet is the cause of tooth

decay. Tooth decay occurs when foods containing carbohydrates (sugars and

starches) such as milk, pop, raisins, cakes or candy are frequently left on the teeth.

Bacteria that live in the mouth thrive on these foods, producing acids as a result.

Over a period of time, these acids destroy tooth enamel, resulting in tooth decay.

But the truth is the American Dental Association is only hitting on 1 of the 4

things that could contribute to tooth decay. According to the insights of my

dentist, there are 4 main things that contribute to tooth decay:

35
• Lack of minerals in the diet (calcium, magnesium and phosphorus)

• Lack of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) (especially D)

• Too much consumption of Phytic Acid rich foods

• Too much consumption of processed sugar

The Guatemalan toothpaste helps alleviate these problems. Additionally, I

know it can get expensive, but there are several brands of fluoride-free toothpaste

that you won’t have to pay a small fortune to get your hands on. Second, if you’re

looking to save a buck or two and also want to re-mineralize your teeth in a

particularly powerful way, try making your own!

To make this magic elixir, mix the following ingredients:

• 4 tbsp. Coconut Oil

• 2 tbsp. Baking Soda (aluminum free)

• 1 tbsp. xylitol or 1/8 tsp. stevia

• 20 drops peppermint or clove essential oil

• 20 drops trace minerals or (calcium/magnesium powder)

Don’t be fooled, there in addition to brushing and flossing daily, there are

several ways you can reverse cavities and maximizes your oral health without

resorting to taking in fluoride.

The Protocol

To boost your tooth health, it’s better to make sure you eat well and to

improve your blood circulation.

To boost the effectiveness of this protocol, avoid foods that will decay your

teeth. Probably the worst culprit of them all for anyone who desires healthy,

cavity-free teeth, sugar should be avoided like the plague. Not only does sugar

37
feed oral bacteria that prevents a healthy flow of dental fluids, it is highly acidic

and can literally decalcify or demineralize the structural content of teeth that

create dental decay.

This means staying away from soda, candy, and baked goods with sugar.

Additionally, use raw honey and maple syrup and drink juices sparingly as too

much sugar can contribute to cavity formation. Be careful of artificial sweeteners

because of their health risks as well. Bottom line: Make stevia your new best

friend along with raw honey in moderation!

Did you know?

Anthropologist have known for decades that across the ages there have been

countless examples of indigenous populations who never brush or floss their

teeth, that also show no signs of dental caries/tooth decay. On the surface it

seems so counter-intuitive. How can it be that teeth so heavily coated in bacterial

plaque can remain free of decay? The answer quite simply is totally dependent on

the diet of these indigenous populations. Our oral bacteria eat the same foods we

do and a diet free of any simple carbohydrate sources simply is incapable of

contributing to tooth decay.

A particular example can be found with skull studies from the Yucatan

Mayan culture. Anthropologists can pin-point exactly when the Europeans began

doing trade with these cultures. As soon as the Maya people began eating the

processed carbohydrate foods (flour, sugar) from the European diets they began

showing signs of rampant tooth decay problems.

The Nasal Polyps Turmeric Protocol

Country: Swaziland

Continent: Africa

Treatment for: Nasal polyps

Secret ingredient: Turmeric

Product Description

Nasal polyps develop on the lining of the nose or sinuses. They are benign

soft growths that consist of swollen mucosa and grow either singly or in clusters.

When the mucous membranes in the nose or sinuses get inflamed, fluid builds up

in their cells and over a period of time they develop into nasal polyps. These

polyps grow around the edges of the nose and sinuses. When they are small, they

do not cause any problem but if they become inflamed due to bacterial and viral

infections, fungus, sinusitis and chronic inflammation, they block the nasal

airways which give rise to difficulty in breathing, snoring, headaches, runny nose,

nasal stuffiness, profuse nasal drainage, loss of sense of smell, facial discomfort

and mouth breathing. I had a patient once who suffered because the excess

mucous instead of coming out through the nose was dripping down the back of

her throat. The polyps had grown large in size and they had change the shape of

her face. She told me that she had used nasal sprays and steroids which helped for

a little while. However, after a while, they stopped being effective and their

harmful effects had caused untold damage to her feminine system, causing her to

grow facial hair and back hair.

Lucky for her that I knew of an ancient African cure for nasal polyps. It is

thought to come from the area around Swaziland, where the Hobundu people

used turmeric to treat nasal polyps. According to anthropologists, hey had plenty

39
of experience dealing with this condition because of the dusty air. Turmeric

(Curcuma longa) is a culinary spice that spans cultures - it is a major ingredient in

Indian curries, and makes American mustard yellow. But evidence is

accumulating that this brightly colored relative of ginger is a promising disease-

preventive agent as well, probably due largely to its anti-inflammatory action.

How It Works

Turmeric has great healing and curing properties thus have a huge

capacity to heal and cure a wide range of diseases and ailments. It is an excellent

antioxidant and has distinct anti-inflammatory properties which fight every kind

of infection and reduce swelling. It is a natural decongestant. It prevents fluid

buildup in the nasal cavities and unclogs the blocked passages. Take one teaspoon

of turmeric powder with warm milk, once every morning and once in the night

before going to bed on a regular basis. Eventually the polyps will reduce in size

and bring relief in the pain. For sinus and sinusitis relevant ailment Turmeric

works like magic. It has great healing and curing properties. First of all Turmeric

is well known for its natural decongestant power. Moreover Turmeric has great

anti-inflammatory power. Turmeric is full of antioxidants too. Finally Turmeric is

very good to treat infection. Ancient people used to use Turmeric to prevent

infection and reduce swelling. So now we easily understand how Turmeric can

help us to get rid of our sinus relevant diseases.

The Protocol

To get benefit of Turmeric you can take it with milk. Just take one teaspoon

of turmeric powder with warm milk. Continue taking turmeric for 10 days. Then

take two days off begin the cycle again. Repeat this process until you have

completed 4 cycles. You would notice remarkable improvement. Especially sinus

relevant problems will reduce in great extent. You would notice your polyps are

shrinking too.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

To boost the effectiveness of this protocol, consider adding some of these

inexpensive solutions to your lifestyle:

Sweet potatoes are one of the oldest vegetables known to man. They are

also one of the most nutritious vegetables and an excellent addition to your diet if

you are prone to getting nasal polyps. They are one of the foods that are least

likely to cause allergic reactions, which is great news since most nasal polyps are

linked to allergies. The pink, orange, and yellow varieties are one of the most

concentrated food sources of beta-carotene (the more intense the color, the more

beta-carotene). Sweet potatoes also contain vitamin C.

Turbo-charge your anti-polyp diet by regularly consuming pineapple. In

addition to being one of the best fruit sources of vitamin C (almost as good as

oranges), pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme with wide-ranging activity.

Evidence suggests that bromelain may help treat inflammation and swelling of

the nose and sinuses. Be aware, however, that most of the bromelain in pineapple

42
is in the stem which is not as tasty and juicy as the flesh but which is nevertheless

edible.

Research indicates that mushrooms may help alleviate allergies, which are

often associated with nasal polyps. These health benefits of mushrooms maybe

linked to their high selenium content. One cup of crimini mushrooms provides

almost a third of the recommended daily intake for selenium. The polyp-fighting

effects of selenium are based on its role in the antioxidant system of the body:

selenium is a key component of many enzymes involved in antioxidant defense.

Since ancient times, garlic has been used as a remedy for a vast range of

ailments. Recent research has shown garlic to be effective at maintaining

cardiovascular health and at preventing cancer. Eating garlic on a daily basis may

also help prevent and treat nasal polyps and associated symptoms due to its

ability to inhibit the activity of certain enzymes that generate inflammatory

prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Additionally, garlic, especially fresh garlic,

contains a fair amount of vitamin C. It is also a good source of selenium, with one

cup of raw garlic providing almost 30% of the recommended daily intake for an

average adult.

Provided that you are not allergic to fish, anchovies are an excellent food to

add to your shopping list. Anchovies are very high in selenium, with a mere

ounce of anchovies containing about 28% of the recommended daily intake for

selenium. What's more, anchovies are an excellent source of the anti-inflammatory

omega-3 fatty acids which may protect against nasal polyps. At the same time,

anchovies contain only low levels of mercury compared to many other fish.

If you can develop a liking for their bitter taste, these unsung nutritional

stars will reward you with a slew of nutrients that are thought to combat nasal

polyps. Dandelion leaves are one of the best sources of beta-carotene, but they are

also a very good source of vitamin C and a fairly good source of vitamin E. Fresh

dandelion greens can be used in salads or they can be made into a herbal tea. If
43
you cannot get used to their strong flavor, dandelion supplements are also

available in many health stores.

Did you know?

In recent years, turmeric has attracted quite a bit of interest for its natural

healing properties, but it has actually been used medicinally for over 4,500 years.

Analyses of pots discovered near New Delhi uncovered residue from turmeric,

ginger and garlic that dates back as early as 2500 BCE. It was around 500 BCE that

turmeric emerged as an important part of Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurveda is an

ancient Indian system of natural healing that is still practiced today. Ayurveda

translates to “science of life”– ayur meaning “life” and veda meaning “science or

knowledge.” Inhaling fumes from burning turmeric was said to alleviate

congestion, turmeric juice aided with the healing of wounds and bruises, and

turmeric paste was applied to all sorts of skin conditions – from smallpox and

chicken pox to blemishes and shingles. Ayurvedic literature contains over 100

different terms for turmeric, including jayanti, meaning “one who is victorious

over diseases,” and matrimanika, meaning “as beautiful as moonlight.”

The Hay Fever Honey Protocol

Country: Egypt

Continent: Africa

Treatment for: Hay Fever

Secret ingredient: Honey

Product Description

Hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is a common condition that

shows signs and symptoms similar to a cold with sneezing, congestion, runny

nose and sinus pressures. Hay fever is caused by an allergic response to airborne

substances, such as pollen - unlike a cold which is caused by a virus. The time of

year in which you get hay fever depends on what airborne substance you are

allergic to. The substance that causes an allergic reaction in hay fever is called an

"allergen". For the majority of people, those who do not get hay fever, these

substances are not allergens, because their immune system does not react to them.

Despite its name, hay fever does not mean that the person is allergic to hay

and has a fever. Hay is hardly ever an allergen, and hay fever does not cause

fever. Although hay fever and allergic rhinitis have the same meaning, most lay

people refer to hay fever only when talking about an allergic reaction to pollen or

airborne allergens from plants or fungi, and understand allergic rhinitis as an

allergy to airborne particles, such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander which affect

the nose, and maybe the eyes and sinuses as well. Some people are only mildly

affected by this condition and rarely reach the point where they decide to seek

medical advice. However, for many, symptoms may be so severe and persistent

that they are unable to carry out their daily tasks at home, work or at school

properly - these people will require treatment. Treatments may not get rid of the

symptoms altogether, but they usually lessen them and make it easier to cope. Of

45
course, as a physician, I have seen many people with severe hay fever and I have

prescribed this protocol to them, always with positive results. It is ancient

Egyptian therapy that I picked up on a trip to Giza. This protocol was actually

passed on to me by my tour guide. It seemed that even back in ancient times,

people were dealing with hay fever and the Egyptians noticed that a good

regiment of local honey was able to tamp down on their seasonal allergies.

How It Works

Honey is one of our oldest medicinal substances. Far from being a mere

natural—and delicious—sweetener, honey has been prized for its usefulness as a

folk remedy for thousands of years. It has been used traditionally to aid in the

healing of everything from open wounds to sore throats. In recent years, scientists

have discovered that honey possesses some legitimately intriguing properties.

Proteins secreted by honeybees, for instance, are intermingled with the flower

nectar bees use to produce honey, and science has recently discovered that one of

these proteins, called “bee defensin-1” has significant antibacterial, antifungal,

and antiviral properties. Depending on the flowers visited during nectar

gathering, honey may also contain a broad mix of plant chemicals, collectively

called phytochemicals, including antioxidants, flavonoids, and phenolics. Some of

these complex compounds are also believed to play a role in the potential health

benefits of honey.

Some people have suggested that honey consumption may be linked to a

reduced risk of allergies, especially when the honey comes from local bees, which

presumably visit many of the plants involved in provoking a local allergy

sufferer’s symptoms. According to research, exposure to local honey works

somewhat like a vaccine against local allergens by exposing people to the pollen

that ordinarily causes an allergic response. Perhaps a better comparison would be

desensitization therapy; an established allergy treatment in which patients are

routinely exposed to extremely diluted (but escalating) doses of offending

46
allergens. This long-term therapy, designed to reduce a patient’s allergic

responses to given allergens, relies on gradually familiarizing the patient’s

immune system with the offending proteins, in the hope that the immune system

will eventually stop overreacting to its presence.

The Protocol

In this 6-day protocol, you will boost your immune system by eating varying

doses of local honey. If you do not have access to locally farmed honey, eating any

other honey may also have beneficial effects. However, it is always best to use

honey harvested close to your locality. I recommend you follow this protocol and

take one day off and begin the cycle again. Continue this regiment for at least

three cycles.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

To boost the effectiveness of this protocol, please consider adding some of

these inexpensive solutions to your lifestyle:

Vitamin C is a known natural antihistamine and can be found in oranges,

lemons and grapefruit. Also present are bioflavonoids, which have powerful anti-

allergy effects. The combination of vitamin C and bioflavonoids provides a

natural decongestant and antihistamine for sufferers and helps alleviate

symptoms effectively. Oranges are a good dose of vitamin C or you can take a

supplement.

Red peppers and chilli peppers contain an active component called

capsaicin. When eaten, this component opens nasal passages and helps reduce

congestion brought on by hay fever, alleviating symptoms significantly.

Naturally occurring pigments in plants, carotenoids act as powerful

antioxidants to help reduce inflammation in your airways and improve your

immune system. A good source of carotenoids can be found in foods such as

carrots, apricots, pumpkin, sweet potato and spinach.

An antioxidant and antihistamine, chamomile tea also contains flavonoids

and acts effectively as an anti-inflammatory agent. While best taken as a cuppa

during the day, chamomile tea can also be used as an eye compress. The compress

provides a cooling effect to swollen, red eyes caused by hay fever and reduces

irritability considerably.

Increasing your dietary intake of garlic can help boost your body’s immune

system, while also acting as a decongestant and helping to alleviate minor hay

fever symptoms. It’s also an anti-inflammatory and a good source of quercetin, a

natural antihistamine.

Honey is as old as history is itself. One of the earliest evidence of honey

harvesting is on a rock painting dating back 8000 years, this one found in

Valencia, Spain shows a honey seeker robbing a wild bee colony. The bees were

subdued with smoke and the tree or rocks opened resulting in destruction of the

colony.

In the Old Testament, the land of Israel was often referred to as the "land

flowing of milk and honey". God nourished Jacob with honey from the rock, and

gave Israel fine flour, olive oil and honey. John the Baptist ate locusts and wild

honey. Honey is mention in the scrolls of the Orient, the Talmud and Koran.

The Romans used honey to heal their wounds after battles. Hannibal, a

great warrior gave his army honey and vinegar as they crossed the Alps on

elephants to battle Rome. During the 10 century, the Kings and Queens of

England had fermented honey wine (Mead), the Edmeades family produced some

of these.

The Cradle Cap Shea Butter Protocol

Country: Ethiopia

Continent: Africa

Treatment for: Cradle cap (Seborrheic dermatitis)

Secret ingredient: Shea Butter

Product Description

Cradle cap is one of those things about parenthood no one ever tells you to

expect. All of a sudden your beautiful little peach is shedding big yellow scales of

nastiness from their precious head and you have no idea why. Welcome to

motherhood!

Cradle cap is the most common skin problem in toddlers. Cradle cap is the

patchy, yellowish, scaly, greasy, and crusty appearance on the scalp of new born

babies. It is neither contagious nor itchy. Cradle cap is characterized by the

dandruff like dry flakes on the scalp of the baby. It mostly appears in first three

months of new born baby. It is scientifically called as neonatal seborrhoeic

dermatitis or infantile. It not only attacks sensitive scalp of the baby, but also

eyebrows, eyelids, and area around ears. What a lot of people don’t realize is that

this condition is also common in adults, mostly less than 40 years. In adults, it

appears as skin inflammation. Cradle cap in adults is termed as seborrhoeic

eczema or seborrhoeic dermatitis. The greasy areas producing sebum in adults are

attacked by a fungal infection.

This condition is neither allergic nor bacterial infection, but can be

considered as an inflammatory condition. Cradle cap is a fungal infection, which

surfaces due to the antibiotics given to mother before the child’s birth. When the

50
hormones passed by a mother to a child enlarge the oil glands, more sebum is

produced. The causes can vary between infants and adults.

The most common cause for cradle cap in babies are:

• Hormones passed from mother to baby

• Antifungal treatments

• Antibiotics given to mother during pregnancy

• Overstimulation of oil glands of baby

• Extreme weather

• Certain baby lotions, which includes alcohol

• Irregular skin cleaning

• Oily skin

• Skin disorders

• Food allergies

• Growth of yeast in the digestive tract

The most common causes of cradle cap in adults are:

• Hormonal abnormalities

• Puberty

• Increased humidity

• Extreme temperature

• Emotional stress

• Immune deficiency diseases, like HIV

• Neurologic disorders, like Parkinson’s disease

When I come across this condition in my own patients, I always prescribe a

traditional Ethiopian treatment of shea butter. When I learned of it, I knew that it

would be effective because one of the main fungi that are responsible for cradle

cap are indigenous to that part of Africa. I picked up this remedy at a conference

of physicians several years ago and it has been working effectively ever since.

51
How It Works

Shea butter is a skin superfood that comes from the seeds of the fruit of the

shea (Karite) tree and that is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F. It offers UV

protection (it is SPF ~6) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the

nutrients necessary for collagen production. Shea butter has been used in Africa

and other countries for years to improve skin and hair. The concentration of

natural vitamins and fatty acids in shea butter makes it incredibly nourishing and

moisturizing for skin. It is often used to remedy dry skin and to help protect the

skin’s natural oils. A 2010 study found that due to its cinnamic acid and other

natural properties, shea butter was anti-inflammatory. One compound in

particular, lupeol cinnamate, was found to reduce skin inflammation and even

potentially help avoid skin mutations. This creamy substance aids in the skin’s

natural collagen production and contains oleic, stearic, palmitic and linolenic

acids that protect and nourish the skin to prevent drying. Shea butter is a natural

remedy for curing cradle cap. We all know that skin of babies is very soft and

tender. Shea butter can easily be absorbed by the skin of scalp without leaving

any greasy residue. It does not clog pores and prevent the development of oil or

dandruff. Shea butter easily melts and rapidly absorbs in to the skin. It is really a

fantastic moisturizer, and is rich in vitamin A. Due to the numerous advantages it

provides, shea butter is utilized in several beauty and haircare goods. It is helpful

to alleviate psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis and dry scalp. It absorbs fast and

completely into the entire scalp without making a greasy residue, clogging the

pores, or developing an accumulation of dandruff or oil.

The Protocol

Though, cradle cap is not contagious, but looks very ugly on a child’s scalp.

It is believed that cradle cap disappear itself after a few months, but as a parent,

you cannot just sit and wait for its self-healing.

52
In this protocol, you are required to rub some shea butter onto the affected

area. After leaving it on the scalp for 20 minutes, use a soft toothed comb to pick

out flakes. Wash baby’s head with shampoo. Gently wipe baby’s head. Perform

this protocol a maximum of twice a day whenever you have a flair up of cradle

cap.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

To boost the effectiveness of this protocol, please consider adding some of

these inexpensive solutions to your regiment:

Vaseline is helpful in treating cradle cap. It is the most simplest and

convenient remedy for cradle cap. Simply apply some Vaseline on the infected

area. Leave it overnight. This will make scales soft, which can be removed with

the help of soft toothed comb.

Coconut oil works very effectively on cradle cap. It is one of the natural

remedies for cradle cap. All you require to do is to apply some coconut oil on

baby’s head covering the infected area. Use a fine and soft toothed comb to

remove flakes. After combing, use a mild shampoo to wash baby’s hair, which

will remove extra flakes. Use a soft towel to wipe baby’s head.

Mineral oil is a natural cure for baby cradle cap. You are suggested to

apply some mineral oil on baby’s head. Let it be on baby’s scalp for a few hours.

Then, rinse baby’s hair and scalp properly with a baby shampoo. While washing

hair, gently rub baby’s scalp with the help of clean wet washcloth in a circular

motion. This method will remove flakes from scalp easily.

Olive oil is the commonly used oil for healing cradle cap in infants. To

remove crust-like scales and flakes from baby’s scalp, apply some olive oil on

his/her head. Let it rest for 15 minutes. Oil will soak the dry scales, which can be

easily removed with fine toothed comb. You can also use a clean soft washcloth to

remove flakes.

Did you know?

Shea Butter, commonly known as Karité, is derived from the Shea Nut Tree

(butyrospermum parkii), which grows in the western region of Africa. The fruits

of these trees contain a nut. In the traditional method of extraction, the shea nuts

are dried and ground. The powder is then boiled in water to release an unctuous

substance which rises to the top and solidifies to create Shea Butter. This butter

has been used for centuries in Africa to moisturize and protect the skin from sun,

wind, heat and salt water.

Shea Butter can be used for all forms of massage as it creates a frictionless,

yet "easy grip" surface allowing for the smoothest and most therapeutic deep

tissue work. It is an excellent base for the addition of essential oils. And it is a key

ingredient in the most reputable French beauty products and soaps, only recently

gaining recognition in the United States. Due to its unsaponifiable nature, Shea

Butter cannot rob the skin of its natural oils and can actually help stimulate

collagen production. As such, it can be very effective in helping to alleviate

wrinkles, scars and burns. Shea Butter can be used as a hair dressing to moisturize

a dry scalp and stimulate hair growth. Used as a pomade, it helps to hold the

hairstyle and lightly relax curls.

Medicinally, Shea Butter has been studied as an anti-inflammatory topical

cream, being helpful in cases of arthritis, and it contains stigmasterol which is the

sterol known as "the anti-stiffness factor" making it helpful in cases of rheumatism

(Hampton). It has additionally been studied as a nasal decongestant by applying

it to the inside of the nostrils. Shea Butter is also helpful in cases of eczema and

dermatitis and contains chemical constituents that help to heal bruising and

soreness.

The Eye Cysts Onion Juice Protocol

Country: Mexico

Continent: North America

Treatment for: Eyelid Cysts

Secret ingredient: Onion Juice

Product Description

The eyes and the eyelids are the most sensitive parts of the human body.

There is irritation in the eyes with the slightest infection that can cause several eye

problems and the most common cyst is a bump on the eyelid. Cysts can develop

around the eyelid as a result of inflammation or blockage of the oil glands. There

are several types of eyelid cysts, which cause swelling in a small area of the

eyelid. Usually, cysts such as these will heal on their own, but some require

treatment. If the infection around the eye is left untreated for too long, there is a

serious risk of it affecting the vision. Therefore, it is important that you treat a cyst

as soon as you notice it.

Although there are many medical treatments for this infection, it is always

better to go for the natural cures. One of the most natural cures for eyelid cysts

that I have ever come across comes from the high deserts of Northern Mexico,

where small, widely dispersed communities have had to deal with the effects of

desert dust storms for centuries. They have come up with a rather unorthodox

cure for common eye irritations and it just happens to also be a great remedy for

eyelid cysts. And, when you think about it, it is a rather self-evident cure because

it takes advantage of the fact that onion fumes cause your eyes to water.

55
How It Works

If you are suffering from eyelid cysts, drops of onion juice will be an

effective cure. Unless you've avoided cooking your entire life, you've probably cut

up an onion and experienced the burning and tearing you get from the vapors.

When you cut an onion, you break cells inside the bulb, releasing their contents.

Amino acid sulfoxides form sulfenic acids. Enzymes that were kept separate are

now are free to mix with the sulfenic acids to produce propanethiol and S-oxide, a

volatile sulfur compound that wafts upward toward your eyes. This gas reacts

with the water in your tears to form sulfuric acid. The sulfuric acid burns,

stimulating your eyes to release more tears to wash the irritant away.

Onions are also antibacterial in nature and this makes them useful in

treating infections caused by bacteria in the eyes. Eyelid cysts are not a life

threatening disease, but they must be treated immediately otherwise they can lead

to severe infection of the eyes. Personal hygiene is also very important for

restricting the growth and severity of the infection. Wash your hands as often as

possible (especially after coming in from outside), so that even if you do

accidently touch the eyes with your hands, the infection doesn’t spread.

The Protocol

For this protocol, peel and wash 2 onions. Grate the onions and squeeze the

juice from them. Collect about a teaspoon of onion juice and add two teaspoons of

cold water to it. Mix the solution well. Apply onion juice solution over the eyes

using clean cotton cloth. Leave the cloth over the eyes for 10 minutes.

This is a 5-day protocol. Perform one cycle and take two days off. If cysts

persist, perform two more cycles as necessary. If your eyelid cysts persist after

three complete cycles of this protocol, consult a physician.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

To improve the effectiveness of this protocol, consider introducing some of

these inexpensive natural remedies to your lifestyle:

Since water is readily available at home, your natural remedy will benefit

from the utility of water. First of all you must clean your eye very well with cold

water in order to remove dirt and dust particles. If you have some medicated soap

or an antiseptic liquid, a warm compress application is also good for your eye. A

warm compress can heal cysts effectively.

57
Honey will be readily available in your kitchen. Rosewater is another

ingredient that is used by many women to maintain lovely skin. A combination of

rosewater and honey will be effective for removing the eyelid cyst.

If you wash your eyes with cold milk, it will give a soothing effect to your

eyes as well as the cyst. The evaporated milk helps in a wonderful way to heal

eyelid cysts.

Another way of curing eyelid cysts is tea bags. Apply the tea bag to your

eyes as a compress for around 5-10 minutes. Herbal tea bags are popularly

available in the every grocery store. It is also possible to use chilled chamomile tea

for the same purpose.

Turmeric is a root of the plant and it has anti-fungal elements in it.

Drinking milk once daily mixed with turmeric can thus help in effective reduction

of eyelid cysts. It also speeds up the process of healing.

Take a handful of parsley and brew it in boiling water for about 10

minutes. Dip a clean cloth in the water and apply over the closed lid of your

affected eye. Lie back and relax for about 15 minutes after completion of the

process. The parsley acts as a purification agent for the eyes, which helps in

eliminating toxins.

Using guava leaves is another very effective way to get relief from the pain

of eyelid cysts. All you need to do is warm up the guava leaves and put them

inside a warm cloth. Use the cloth as a compress over your affected eye.

Did you know?

In Ancient Egypt, onions were considered to be an object of worship. The

onion symbolized eternity to the Egyptians, who buried onions along with their

Pharaohs. The Egyptians saw eternal life in the anatomy of the onion because of

its circle-within-a-circle structure. Paintings of onions appear on the inner walls of

the pyramids and in the tombs of both the Old Kingdom and the New Kingdom.
58
The onion is mentioned as a funeral offering and depicted on the banquet

tables of great feasts – both large, peeled onions and slender, immature ones. They

were also depicted as offerings upon the altars of the gods.

Frequently in stone reliefs, Egyptian priests are pictured holding onions in

their hands or covering an altar with a bundle of their leaves or roots. In

mummies, onions have frequently been found in the pelvic regions of the body, in

the thorax, or flattened against the ears and in front of the collapsed eyes.

Flowering onions have been found on the chest, and onions have been found

attached to the soles of the feet and along the legs. King Ramses IV, who died in

1160 B.C., was entombed with onions in his eye sockets.

The Parodontose Myrrh Protocol

Country: Somalia
Continent: Asia
Treatment for: Parodontose
Secret ingredient: Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)

Product Description

I’ve seen a lot of home remedies cross my desk, most of which have some

validity based on anecdotal evidence and many of which have been tested and

proven in clinical studies, but few have been touted as the definitive cure for the

problem they address.

Parodontose or parodontitis is the result of inflammation of the tissues

surrounding the teeth (gums) that takes place when bacteria and tartar build up in

gum pockets. Bacteria slowly destroys tissues, including gum and bone,

eventually leading to loose teeth (teeth falling out).

One of the symptoms of early bacterial infestation is halitosis or bad breath.

Others are gums that bleed when being brushed or flossed, gums that feel or look

swollen, a persistent metallic taste in the mouth, sensitivity to sweets and

temperatures, receding gums, and loose teeth. Each of these symptoms can also be

caused by other issues, however.

The bad news is that there may be very few symptoms in the early stages. The

good news is that bad breath and the bacteria that cause gingivitis and

parodontose are easily managed with one simple plant - myrrh.

Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) is a classic natural remedy that seems to work

for everyone when it comes to parodontose, and has been studied and proven to

reduce redness and swelling associated with unhealthy gums.

60
Its antiseptic properties work well as an oral disinfectant and it helps alleviate

gum infections while toning and strengthening the gums. It’s beneficial in treating

pyorrhea (shrinking gums), which in turn helps keep teeth from falling out, and

it’s found in many natural toothpastes and mouthwashes.

Myrrh has a bactericidal effect, so if your gums are already inflamed, you’ll

get relief. If you don’t suffer from parodontose, it will help prevent it. It’s readily

available, maybe even at your local pharmacy, as a tincture, powder, or essential

oil.

How It Works

I read a lot of texts, both ancient and modern, on the benefits and uses of

plants in relation to health. One ancient religious text names myrrh 600 times and

is at the top of their list of fourteen principle oils.

Myrrh is effective because it’s toxic - not to humans, but to the organisms that

grow in the mouth. This action can be directly linked to myrrh’s active

compounds - terpenoids. And not only does it kill harmful mouth bacteria, it kills

over forty strains of candida, a fungal yeast that can invade many parts of the

body.

The protocol is not limited by a timeframe. It is ongoing. You will use it daily

as part of your regular hygiene ritual.

The Protocol

This is a simple protocol that requires little effort, but because of the nature of

mouth bacteria, which recurs daily, the protocol must be maintained throughout

your lifetime.

If you are not experiencing any gum bleeding or other symptoms of

parodontose, follow the maintenance protocol provided below. If you already

have inflamed gums or other symptoms, apply myrrh directly and use the

61
periodontal tray 3 times daily as instructed below, in addition to the daily

protocol. If you do not find relief within 3-5 days, visit a dentist for an assessment.

You will need:

• Myrrh essential oil

• Essential oils to make homemade mouth rinse

• A soft toothbrush

• A periodontal tray and dropper (optional)

To make your homemade mouth rinse, in addition to myrrh essential oil,

chose 2-3 of the following essential oils / extracts. Each has antibacterial

properties, so choose them by personal taste. My favorite is a combination of Tea

Tree, Lemon, and Clove.

• Tea tree (Melaleuca alterniflia or melaleuca oil) - antimicrobial; anti-

inflammatory; antifungal; antiviral; antiprotozoal; pain killer

• Rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis) - antimicrobial (bacteria, yeast, fungi)

• Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) - antimicrobial; antibacterial; antiseptic

• Lemon (Citrus x limon) - stimulating; calming; detoxifying; antiseptic;

disinfectant; antifungal; astringent; enhances gum tissue formation

• Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) - enhances tissue ormation and blood

circulation

• Chamomile, common (Anthemis nobilis) - antiseptic; antibiotic; antiphogistic;

analgesic; bactericidal; anti-inflammatory; enhances tissue formation

• Chamomile, German (Matricaria chamomilla) - antiseptic; antibiotic;

antiphogistic; analgesic; bactericidal; anti-inflammatory; enhances tissue

formation

• Clove (Syzygium aromaticus) - antibacterial; antimicrobial; antiseptic;

antiviral; fungicide; local anesthetic

• Grapefruit seed extract - bactericidal

62
Homemade Mouthwash

Essential oils are not water-soluble and in some cases may be too strong to be

placed directly on gum tissue. Use only organic, therapeutic-grade, cold-pressed

essential oils.

Here’s a simple formula for making a mouthwash.

• Mix 4 drops myrrh essential oil and 6 drops of other essential oils into 3-4

ounces water.

• Swish in the mouth for 15-20 seconds (dilute with more water if it’s too

strong).

• To make a large batch, mix 24 drops myrrh essential oil and 36 drops other

essential oils into 3 cups (24 ounces) water.

Your objective is to disrupt bacterial growth as much as possible and destroy it.

1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, paying attention to behind the back

teeth, all surfaces, and the area where the teeth and gums meet.

2. Direct the bristles gently underneath the gum line.

3. Gently brush the tongue from back to front.

4. Floss every time you eat, even if you can’t brush (carry floss in your bag or

car).

5. Rinse with natural mouthwash.

For inflamed areas, dab myrrh directly on the area 3 times a day.

You can use your periodontal tray 3 times daily to keep antibacterial essential oils

on gums longer.

1. Hold the tray open-side up and fill each section lightly with your regular

toothpaste or gel, leaving room for essential oil.

2. Place one drop of myrrh essential oil into each section.

3. Set the tray into the mouth securely against gums and let it sit for 5-10

minutes.
63
4. Remove tray, rinse mouth with water, then again with mouthwash, and wash

tray thoroughly using cold water only.

5. Your dentist is still an important professional. Get regular checkups around

your healthy mouth routine.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

• Myrrh may interact with Warfarin and other coumarin derivatives. Check

with your doctor. You can substitute tea tree or rosemary essential oils.

• Always dilute essential oils when using them on children. Their skin and air

passages are far more sensitive than those of adults and they could react

among other things with bronchial spasm and even apnea (respiratory arrest).

• Do not use tea tree oil on cats since it can be highly toxic for them.

Did you know?

Ancient Egyptians used myrrh to embalm the bodies of the Pharaohs.

Myrrh resin is collected by tapping, just like maple syrup. It hardens as soon as

it’s exposed to air forming droplets that can be snapped off about 2 weeks later.

The Sage Foot Deodorant Protocol

Country: Bulgaria

Continent: Europe

Treatment for: Foot Odor

Secret ingredient: Sage

Product Description
Everybody knows what stinky feet smell like. We all have a friend or

relative -- or maybe it's you -- whose feet can clear out a room when they kick

their shoes off. Even a person who usually doesn’t deal with body odor problems

can do a decent job stinking up a pair of shoes just by running a few miles in

them. Whether the offender is a coworker, your spouse, or some guy on the

airport security line, we’ve all smelled the stench of their sweaty dogs. Heck, if

you are reading this post, there is a fairly good chance that the offender is YOU

who occasionally suffers from stinky feet. This problem can happen to anyone,

but pregnant women, teens, the elderly, folks with heart disease and diabetes, and

people under a lot of stress are especially prone to the condition, which is

essentially caused by perspiration

Your feet produce more sweat per square inch of skin than the rest of your

body. In fact, your feet have almost a million sweat glands, which can lead to a

whole lot of sweat. Factors like thick socks or soaring summer temperatures can

cause extra perspiration and turn your feet into a stink bomb. The bacteria that

exist on your skin and in your shoes consumes and processes your sweat. This

produces an acid byproduct that absolutely stinks! This happens to everyone and

this is a natural process. When you walk around in socks and shoes, the sweat

gets trapped inside. This warm, moist environment is a great place for bacteria

and fungus to thrive and this produces odor. However, using this sage protocol,

65
you can reduce that bacteria by creating a more disinfected and drier habitat for

your feet. In effect, you will eliminate bacteria so you can walk odor-free.

How It Works

Using sage to wipe away the odor from your feet is a great way to avoid

parabens, aluminum, and neurotoxins found in commercial antiperspirants and

deodorants. Chemical deodorants create a more acid, inhospitable environment

for bacteria that produces odor. On the other hand, antiperspirants clog the pores,

which cuts down on the amount of perspiration that leaves your body. This gives

the bacteria less to feed on and this leads to less smell.

Not only that, sage offers an easy and economical way to make deodorant.

Homemade sage deodorant can actually be very effective in the fight against foot

funk. This natural deodorant doesn't curtail perspiration, but it does battle the

odor. There are two factors that sage addresses in order to cut back on the smell:

1. It creates a more acid, astringent environment where bacteria that causes

odors can't thrive.

2. It adds a natural scent that is pleasant and able to counteract any minor

funk that does occur because of natural deodorizing botanicals.

Keep in mind that perspiration is one of the ways that toxins leave your

body, so sweating is not such a bad thing. Smells, however, can be unpleasant and

embarrassing and this is where the natural sage deodorant can really help you

stay fresh all day.

The Protocol

To begin with, I think it’s important to dispel the common assumption that

homemade deodorants are not effective and only good for the savings. The

savings are just one of the many benefits. However, making your own deodorant

also fosters self-reliance, creative exploration, and a sense of accomplishment.

66
On top of that, when I discovered this recipe while on a trip to the

Mediterranean, I was particularly pleased because it was so easy to make. For me,

difficult recipes that require a lot of uncommon ingredients are essentially useless

if you can’t get ahold of them. I do my best to recommend remedies that work

extremely well but are also easy to make and contain common ingredients.

Therefore, I was excited to adopt this recipe as part of my database of worldwide

health solutions. Here is how you make the sage foot deodorant:

Ingredients:

• Small bottle of sage oil

• Small bottle of tea tree oil

• Bottle of grain ethyl alcohol, (high proof liquor such as vodka or

Everclear will work just fine – avoid isopropyl [rubbing] alcohol because it can be

toxic over long periods of time)

• 3-ounce refillable spray bottle (preferably made of glass)

Directions:

Inside the spray bottle, combine 12 drops of sage oil with 10 drops of tea

tree oil. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with alcohol. Spray this solution on clean

feet for protection against foot odor caused by bacteria.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

There are many natural cures for foot odor that are worth trying. Most of

these will ease the problem within a week or so.

Epsom salt minimize foot odor because it fights microbial organisms and

neutralizes odor causing bacteria. A detoxifying foot bath with Epsom salt will

also sooth your aching feet.

67
Black tea contains tannic acid, which kills the bacteria that produce foot

odor. It also closes the pores on your feet, thereby reducing the sweat on which

the bacteria feed.

Vinegar is good for getting rid of smelly feet because it creates a hostile

acidic environment where bacteria cannot survive. Use any type of vinegar,

especially apple cider vinegar for this home remedy.

Exfoliating dead skin and calluses also do a lot to help eliminate foot odor

because this is something that contributes to smelly feet. Use a scrubber regularly

to clean your feet. This will prevent the formation of calluses.

Did you know?

Sage is native to the Mediterranean region. In ancient Rome, sage was

known to have substantial healing properties. Even that far back, it was

particularly helpful in the digestion of the ubiquitous fatty meats that were

popular at the time. At one time, Bulgaria produced bountiful crops of sage which

they used as tea. The Chinese became so enamored of Bulgarian sage tea, they

traded four pounds of Chinese tea to one pound of sage tea.

The Gingivitis Salt Protocol

Country: Tibet
Continent: Asia
Treatment for: Gingivitis
Secret ingredient: Unrefined Salt (NaCl)

Product Description
Simply put, gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums, and although it may

sound like a rather harmless condition, it can lead to much more serious problems

that may affect your overall health.

Inflammation of the gums is caused by plaque, the soft, sticky colorless

film of bacteria that forms on the teeth and gums. It’s the earliest stage of

gingivitis and the easiest to treat. When plaque is left on the teeth, it can produce

toxins that are poisonous to the gums, irritating them and resulting in

inflammation just like any other infection. If the condition persists or is left

untreated, it will lead to periodontitis, a much more damaging condition that will

cause tooth loss and/or permanent damage to your teeth and jaw.

You’ll know you have gingivitis by the appearance of red, swollen tender

gums that may bleed when you brush or are painful. Gums may begin to recede

from the teeth, giving them an elongated appearance. Gum pockets form where

food will collect, and you may experience recurring bad breath or a bad taste in

your mouth.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institute of Dental

and Craniofacial Research have found that more than 50% of American adults

have gingivitis, and more than 70% of people over the age 65 suffer from some

form of gum disease. If left unchecked, it will increase the risk of heart attack and

lung disease stemming from bacteria entering these organs.

69
How It Works

Conventional dentists will tell you that genetics, “proper” dental care and

fluoride treatments will result in healthy teeth and gums. However, Weston A.

Price, a dentist known primarily for his theories on the relationship between

nutrition, dental health, and physical health, studied his theories extensively. He

found that indigenous tribes who ate healthy diets enjoyed remarkably good

dental health, and when they were introduced to the Western diet, disease,

including oral disease, followed.

Because I do a lot of traveling anyway in my search for alternative natural

methods of healing everyday ailments and more serious conditions, I was curious

to visit some of the more isolated groups seen by Dr. Price. Although it’s now 100

years after his research, I knew it would be a great testimonial if these cultures

were still enjoying healthy gums and teeth.

I went to Switzerland, the Gaelic communities of the Outer Hebrides, New

Zealand, South America, and Polynesia, and visited Eskimos of North America,

South Sea Islanders, Aborigines in Australia and African tribes. To my surprise

and delight, they still had straight white teeth with a seemingly natural resistance

to decay and bacteria.

I spoke with many of the tribal leaders, community leaders, and common

folk among them. I knew that their diets played a large role in the health of their

gums and teeth, but I wanted to know specifically what they did to clean their

teeth, when, and how often they did this.

There were a few different answers, but the most common among them

was the use of local unrefined salt. It was cheap, readily available and extremely

effective as a mild abrasive and as a means of killing bacteria.

70
Unrefined salt, NaCl, has been used as a culinary ingredient for ages, but

it’s also been used as a preservative for meats, fermenting foods and healing

wounds, as well as in dying fabrics and cleaning.

I decided to purchase several salts and investigate the differences between

table salts and natural unrefined salts. Here’s what I discovered: It’s hard to tell

the difference between natural salts that have been somewhat refined and those

that have been left totally unrefined.

Here are a few things to look for:

Color: While refined salts are white, almost all unrefined salts have a color

to them. They are beige, pink, gray, red or even black. The colors come from the

mineral content the salt received from its original location.

Moisture: Unrefined salts are packaged with some of their moisture. This

keeps all of the trace minerals intact.

Mineral C+

Content: Look at the packaging and check the salt’s composition. It should

not be entirely sodium chloride. You want to find numerous trace minerals; the

more minerals, the better.

Why not use regular table salt? Table salt does not contain the naturally

occurring minerals found in unrefined salt, minerals your gums need to heal. Do

not use iodized table salt or kosher salt. Kosher salt is not kosher, but is used to

make meats kosher in a process called koshering. It has less additives than iodized

salt but is still not a whole food. Neither contains the trace minerals needed to

promote gum healing.

My 7-Day Protocol uses unrefined salt to naturally draw out infection and

inhibit the growth of bacteria. The protocol is supplemented by a homemade

toothpaste and a homemade mouth rinse. The use of salt to clear gingivitis is

gentle and you will see an improvement within just a few days.
71
Note: If you are experiencing high fever or fever that’s not alleviated

within 24 hours, your infection may need the attention of a physician. Please see a

doctor right away.

The Protocol

The taste of salt does not appeal to everyone, so I’ve added some optional

essential oils to the recipe to make it more palatable.

You will need:

Unrefined salt: Sea salt, pink salt, Himalayan salt, Celtic sea salt.

Optional essential oils: Sage, oregano, peppermint, lavender, tea tree,

neem or any other essential oil with antibacterial properties. Be sure to buy your

essential oils from a reputable source and be sure you are getting the right genus

species. Many oils come from different species and contain different properties.

Homemade toothpaste: See recipe.

Homemade mouth rinse: See recipe.

For a minimum of 7 days, morning and evening before you brush your

teeth, you will rinse your mouth for 2-3 minutes with a mixture of 1/2 teaspoon of

salt to a glass of lukewarm water. Using this homemade saline solution, continue

using the protocol until the swelling of your gums is reduced.

Brush and floss your teeth in the morning and evening and after eating.

Rinse in the morning and evening, and after brushing and flossing. If your gums

are inflamed, be gentle when brushing and flossing. Use a soft toothbrush.

Simple Homemade Toothpaste:

Ingredients

6 tablespoons of coconut oil or sesame oil, or a combination of both

6 tablespoons of baking soda

72
10-15 drops of essential oil (peppermint, eucalyptus, cinnamon, clove,

lemon, orange, rosemary or any others or any combination that sounds good to

you)

Instructions

Mix all ingredients into a paste, using more or less oil and dry ingredients

until it’s the consistency you like.

Neem oil and tea tree oil are antibacterial, but not very tasty. They will,

however, help tighten up gum tissue.

Try adding bentonite clay, and/or diatomaceous earth to the mix, removing

an equal amount of baking soda and adjusting for consistency.

Trace minerals, calcium magnesium powder and diatomaceous earth will

all aid in re-mineralization, while bentonite clay will aid in drawing out

impurities.

Strain and add essential oil.

Swish inside your mouth like regular mouthwash.

Boosters/Substitutes/Exceptions

Don't smoke: Any kind of smoking is terrible for the gums and teeth. It

introduces a huge concentration of free radicals and carbon into the mouth that
73
causes chemical reactions, damaging cells and gum tissue and depleting the

mouth of vitamins and minerals.

Chew on garlic: Regularly chewing on garlic (with salads) will eliminate

much of the bacteria growing in your mouth.

Fix your gut: Whatever infection is in your mouth is also in your intestines

and it's seeping into your blood stream as well. Fix the intestines the whole body

follows suit.

Floss: Even when it makes the gums bleed, it's important to floss; it speeds

healing of the gums and prevents cavities at the gum line as well.

Get in the habit of oil pulling: Try coconut oil or sesame seed oil with a

touch of microbe-killing essential oil. Just put a little oil in your mouth and swish

it through your teeth for 20 minutes the first thing in the morning before you eat

or drink anything. If you want to kick it up a notch, add some neem, peppermint,

clove or oregano oils to the coconut or sesame seed oil.

This will obliterate infection because the oil will get in between your teeth

and deeper within your gums to help eliminate bacteria and Candida in ways that

nothing else can, without causing damage like conventional treatments.

Did You Know?

High blood sugar: The high blood sugar of diabetes weakens the immune

system and allows bad bacteria to take hold.

Kill poison ivy: Mix three pounds of salt with a gallon of soapy water (use

a gentle dish soap) and apply to leaves and stems with a sprayer, avoiding any

plant life that you want to keep.

Extinguish grease fires: Keep a box of salt near your stove and oven, and if

a grease fire flares up, douse the flames with salt. When salt is applied to fire, it

74
acts like a heat sink and dissipates the heat from the fire. It also forms an oxygen-

excluding crust to smother the fire.

Remove perspiration stains: Add four tablespoons of salt to one quart of

hot water and sponge the fabric with the solution until stains fade.

Deter ants: Sprinkle salt at doorways, window sills and anywhere else ants

sneak into your house. Ants don’t like to walk on salt.
