Reading in the Philippine History GEC1-Q

The “First Voyage Around The World with Magellan” was a journal written by Antonio

Pigafetta. He learned of the Magellan expedition and, eager to know the world,

requested and obtained permission to join the journey.This story talks about the

expedition of Ferdinand Magellan and Antonio Pigafetta which aimed to reach Spice

Island to find spices. He joined the expedition under the flag of the king of Spain

Charles I with Ferdinand Magellan served him as assistant and wrote accurate journal in

their expedition.

He wrote the journal for Magellan and future expeditors to record every details of their

expedition. The journal contains how they travel to reach Moluccas also known as Spice

Island. In their travel, they discover new place and meet new people. Pigafetta

narration about the first world circumnavigation was one of the greatest achievements

in the history of exploration and discovery.

Every scenario in the journal happened during their expedition which is important even

small details because it help in understanding the past and history of the voyage. The

journal of Pigafetta become basis and big part of history. Because of his note we are

aware now about their expidition. The documents serve as proof of life in Visayas. He
wrote in his journal about native People live, appearances. Also, this will help the study

of pre-Colonial in the Philipoines.
