ART APPRECIATION

The visual art that I choose was “Modernong Alipin” by Al Baleda. The art work
portrays the enslavement of the OFWs. Filipinos as they continue to fight and live in this
difficult situation. They have been bearing the global crisis of our country for a long period
of time. But when you stare deeply, you will actually see the strong personality of a Filipino
not only on these hard times that was brought by this pandemic, but for their whole life of
sacrificing for their family and also for our country.

In Al Baleda’s artwork “Modernong Alipin”, the assumption was art as an

expression. It expresses the content or subject clearly where OFWs have been bearing the
global crisis. The artwork also shows emotions, it releases a strong feeling of tiredness and
sadness. The artwork’s function was personal because it represents artist’s self-expression,
it possible based on his experience or what he has seen, it is also social because it serves
as a medium to show to people of what the content is trying to portray. The content was
factual because the artwork shows a very clear and complete meaning. This artwork by Al
Baleda has a social relevance because it reflects one of the social issues where OFW’s
became modern slave.
