24.6 LIS Connection

®
LIAISON XL supports 2 different LIS settings:
®
a Complete Protocol, to support all LIAISON XL features;
a Reduced Protocol, to be compatible with most of the existing Liaison
connections.
The Complete Protocol features new data and options (refer to Main UI) in
comparison to those offered by previous Liaison system; otherwise, the Reduced
Protocol offers the same functionalities already available on Liaison, thus limiting the
®
traceability measures foreseen for LIAISON XL.
The choice between the two possible configurations depends on the features of the
software used as host. The Reduced Protocol can be implemented using a specific
®
combination of parameters and allows to install a LIAISON XL in place of a Liaison
analyzer without introducing any modifications in the existing host interface; otherwise,
any change to the Reduced Protocol creates an hybrid configuration that may require
a change in the host.
So, as a general recommendation:
Implement the Reduced Protocol when a Liaison analyzer shall be replaced
without changes on the host;
Implement the Complete Protocol configuration or any other hybrid setting in all
other cases, every time a new installation shall be implemented or when there is a
need to modify the host in order to use the new features supported by
®
LIAISON XL.

Refer to chapter 28 for a more detailed description of LIS Interface Protocol.

24.6.1 LIS Configuration

Table 24.6-1 shows the Reduced Protocol configuration.
Table 24.6-2 shows the Complete Protocol configuration.
Any change to the values of Table 24.6-1 forces the system in a hybrid configuration,
that shall be anyway reflected into the host features.

24.6.2 Connection Scheme

®
The LIS connection scheme supported by LIAISON XL analyzer is represented in
Figure 24.6-5. Four different configurations can be deployed: setting the dedicated
option available in System > Settings > Others subpage, it is possible to choose how
®
the results of the tests shall be transferred to LIAISON XL archive page
(Automatically/ Manually). In the same way the configuration of the dedicated option
available in System > LIS/ LAS subpage allows to set how the archived results shall
be sent to the host (automatically or not). This flexibility allows end-users to choose
®
whether they want to perform a “validation” step directly on the LIAISON XL interface
or in any external device.

The results can be sent to host only from the “Archived” page.

24.6.3 Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting activities related to LIS connections are supported by two dedicated

records, named ASTM1381 and ASTM1394.
It is possible to enable/ disable each LIS records (ASTM1381 and ASTM1394),
enabling/ disabling the dedicated options available in System > LIS/ LAS > LIS
subpage: in the default configuration, only ASTM1394 is enabled.
The first time a LIS connection is established, D:\LiaisonXL\Data\LIS is
automatically created: then all the log files related to ASTM1381 (C3Bxxxxx files) and
ASTM1394 (C3Rxxxxx files) are stored here. In any case, the easiest way to access
these data is to use the LIS dedicated backup from the Main UI.
