REFLECTION
The First and Second Industrial Revolutions (which also overlap with the 18th and
20th centuries, respectively) resulted in huge urbanization and significantly higher levels
of production, profit, and wealth in the nineteenth century. European imperialism formally
destroyed the Islamic gunpowder empires, bringing most of South Asia, Southeast Asia,
and virtually all of Africa under colonial authority.
