Assignment – I
A company is manufacturing PET bottles in various sizes. QC has been instructed to check especially
for three faults viz. Flat Sides, Prominent Mould Seams and Improper Bottom Weight. Any bottle
having any other fault is rejected at the shop floor itself. At QC department bottles are graded
depending on number of faults. If a bottle is free of any of the three faults, it is graded as ‘Grade-I’.
Bottles with any one of the faults are marked as ‘Grade-II’ while bottles with two faults are marked as
‘Grade-III’. Any bottle having all three faults is ‘Rejected’. Company has set a norm that the
proportion of grading (Grade-I : Grade-II : Grade-III : Rejected) should be 5 : 2 : 2 : 1.
The manager has a doubt that the recent production is failing to sustain the norm. A fresh batch of
1,200 bottles was sent to QC department and the report of the same was as under:
