RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

I. OBJECTIVES
1. Explain how the lungs work
2. Create a model of the lungs and explain what happens to them when you
inhale and exhale

II. LESSON OVERVIEW

Every cell of the body needs oxygen to stay alive and healthy. Your body also
needs to get rid of carbon dioxide. This gas is a waste product that is made by the cells
during their normal, everyday functions. These processes are indispensable to life. It
follows that the human body must have an organ system to do these life processes. The
lungs, as the center of the respiratory (breathing) system, are incredible organs which
are specially designed to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide every time you breathe
in and out.

NOTE:
Open your Science book on pages 4 to 7. Perform activity2 (BOTTLED
BALLOONS) Post a short video how you make your bottled balloons. That will
serve as your first Performance Task. (Group Chat).
Watch a short video clips posted in our Group Chat about Respiratory
System.

ANALYSIS:

Directions: Label the numbered part of the Human Respiratory System.

Directions: Identify what is being described or asked.

1. It is the large band of muscles that controls the size of the chest cavity.
2. These are the two large lightweight organs of the respiratory system.
3. These are the little branches of the respiratory system.
4. It is the tube that connects the throat and the bronchi.
5. These are grape-like clusters of air sacs.
GENERALIZATION:

APPLICATION:
Students will observe breathing patterns at rest and after exercise. They will sit
for 30 seconds and then do jumping jacks for 30 seconds. Students should
get their number of breaths per minute at rest and after exercise.

Write a written report(yellow paper) on the details/result of the

observations conducted.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY:

Do a research report about COVID-19 and how does it affect the respiratory system of
humans.
