MODULE SUMMARY
EE153 Module I
2

In module I, you have learned about the basic concepts of

illuminations.

There are four lessons in module I.

Lesson 1 deals with light and lighting fundamentals

Lesson 2 deals with the Low Intensity Discharge Lamps.

Lesson 3 deals with High Intensity Discharge Lamps.
Lesson 4 deals with Lighting Systems and Luminaire.
Congratulations! You have just studied Module I. Now you are ready
to evaluate how much you have benefited from your reading by answering
the summative test. Good Luck!!!

SUMMATIVE TEST

IDENTIFICATION. Answer what is being asked in the question.

________________1. Single ended fluorescent lamp.

________________2. Made from base to stem press and nickel from press to
filament; carries current to filament.
________________3. Vertically downward directly below the luminaire or
lamp, designated as 0°.
________________4. The angel at which light undergoes total internal
reflection.
________________5. These lamps are known for their high efficiency at
turning electricity into light and their long-rated life.
________________6. It is necessary to start the lamp, and thereafter, to
control the arc.
________________7. The ratio of light absorbed by a material to the light
falling upon it.
________________8. The emission of light not directly ascribable to
incandescence.
________________9. A unit of illumination equal to 1 lumen per square
meter.

3

________________10. The luminous intensity of any surface in a given

direction per unit of projected area of the surface, as viewed from that
direction; a directional property of luminous radiation.
________________11. Refers to the amount of energy converted to visible
light.
________________12. 90% TO 100% of the light output of the luminaires is
directed to the ceiling and upper walls of the room
________________13. 60% to 90% of the light output is directed upward with
a remainder directed downward.
________________14. 60% to 90% of the lamp output is directed downward
with a remainder directed upward.
________________15. Is a measure of the lumens Per watt produced by the
lamp.
