version 3.2
Atoll is a 64-bit multi-technology wireless network design and optimisation platform that supports
wireless operators throughout the network lifecycle, from initial design to densification and
optimisation.
Atoll 3.2 includes integrated single RAN – multiple RAT network design capabilities for both 3GPP
(GSM/UMTS/LTE) and 3GPP2 (CDMA/LTE) technology streams. It provides operators and vendors
with a powerful native 64-bit framework for designing and optimising current and future integrated
multi-technology networks. Atoll 3.2 supports the latest technology advances such as HetNets and
Wi-Fi offloading.
Atoll’s integration and automation features help operators smoothly automate planning and
optimisation processes through flexible scripting and SOA-based mechanisms. Atoll supports a wide
range of implementation scenarios, from standalone to enterprise-wide server-based configurations.
With more than 5000 active licences installed with 300+ customers in 100 countries, Atoll has become
the industry standard for radio network planning and optimisation.

Modular Configuration
Atoll Core is the central module that supports the user interface, GIS features, the propagation
modelling engine, data management services, interfaces, and software development and automation
tools. All technology modules run on top of Atoll Core.
Atoll 3.2 features Automatic Frequency Planning and Automatic Cell Planning tools that provide
comprehensive and integrated multi-technology automatic network design and optimisation
functionalities.
Atoll Microwave is a comprehensive microwave link planning software. It is based on the Atoll Core
platform and can be integrated with Atoll radio-planning configurations. See the Atoll Microwave
brochure for more information about this product.
The technology matrix below shows the modules suitable for each technology. Several technologies
can be combined in the same Atoll configuration for planning integrated multi-technology projects.

UMTS/HSPA
Atoll was the first UMTS network planning software on the market. Since 2000 it
has stayed ahead of the competition with continuous improvements through
close cooperation with GSM, UMTS, and LTE operators.
07
LTE
In 2008, Atoll was the first LTE network planning software available on the market. Atoll
is being used by a number of the largest LTE operators worldwide. Atoll 3.2 is a
comprehensive framework for operators who need to plan evolution towards LTE and
LTE-Advanced. It allows planning and analysing integrated GSM/UMTS/LTE and
CDMA2000/LTE networks.

Wi-Fi
Atoll enables designing, planning, and optimising Wi-Fi networks based on the
IEEE 802.11 WLAN standards. It provides comprehensive Wi-Fi network model-
ling with coverage and capacity planning as well as multi-technology traffic
modelling and analysis (e.g. HSPA/LTE/Wi-Fi).
Atoll's multi-technology multi-layer traffic balancing and offloading features
enable operators to plan and evaluate Wi-Fi based scenarios for network
capacity enhancement.
Atoll's Wi-Fi features are part of the Atoll WiMAX/BWA module, which delivers
a comprehensive set of features for the design and optimisation of WiMAX,
Wi-Fi, and other Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) technologies.
11
TD-SCDMA
Atoll TD-SCDMA has been developed in partnership with major players in the
TD-SCDMA scene in China, and is the most widely used TD-SCDMA
planning software on the market.
12
Automatic Frequency Planning
(AFP)
Atoll includes a powerful and flexible GSM AFP module that is being used by a
large number of operators worldwide. It is based on sophisticated optimisation
techniques and includes advanced features such as combined
automatic/interactive frequency planning and optimisation of TRX allocation
vs. interference conditions.
The Atoll GSM AFP module allows combining multiple interference matrices
generated from predictions and real network data.
Atoll also includes dedicated LTE, WiMAX, and Wi-Fi AFP modules that support
technology-specific allocation features.
