some questions to her students.

Formative Assessment

Phrasal Verbs Jeopardy

The students will play a quiz game where they will identify the phrasal verbs in
each sentence. The teacher will divide the students into four teams. She will present
a board with grids with verbs at the top and points below. She will start by choosing a
square to begin the game. Then, she will read the sentence. The first student who will
raise his/her hand and will give the correct phrasal verb will win the amount of points
in the square. Moreover, if the student will give another sentence using the selected
phrasal verb, the points will be doubled. The winning team will be the one to choose
the next square. If a student will answer incorrectly, the points will go to the other
teams. The team with most number of points will be the winner of the game.
Summative Assessment
The teacher will give a five-item quiz.
Directions: Underline the phrasal verb in each sentence.

1. I will read up the Philippine history.

2. Greetings

Good morning class! “Good morning Ma’am Elaine!”

the trashes underneath.

4. Checking of Attendance

Are all present today? “Yes Ma’am.”

II. Activity

A. Priming / Motivation

Today, I will play a music video. I

encourage everyone to take note of
the details that are shown in the
video because afterwards, I will ask
some questions about it. Please
watch carefully. Is that clear?
“Yes Ma’am.”
(The teacher will play the video.)

III. Analysis

What can say about the music video? “It is really good Ma’am!”
(The students’ answers may vary.)

What is it all about? “It is about school.”

What is message of the song? “It tells us to follow all the rules that are
regulated in school.”
What are those rules that are “Sit down; take out your notebook; write
mentioned in there? down the answers; turn off your phones,
etc.”

Should you follow those rules? Why? “Yes Ma’am because rules are so
important in our daily lives.”
(The students’ answers may vary.)

Why is it important? “It is important because it will serve as our

guide when we are here in school.”
(The students’ answers may vary.)

Come in.
Sit down.
Turn off your phones.
Listen up to the teacher.
Take out your notebook.

I underlined these words from the

song. Let’s try to label the underlined
words.

Now, let’s try to analyze. Come is in “It is a verb Ma’am.”

what part of speech?

How about the word in? “It is a preposition.”

Who wants to try the next underlined (Students will try to answer.)
words?
V prep.
Sit down.
V prep.
Turn off your phones.
V prep.
Listen up to the teacher.
V prep.
Take out your notebook.

Tell me, what is similar among them? “They come in two words Ma’am and they
have verbs and prepositions.”

So, are they small group of words? “Yes Ma’am.”

What do you call a small group of “It is phrase Ma’am.”

words?

Therefore, what do we call a phrase

that has a verb and another element
such as a preposition or an adverb? “It is a phrasal verb.’'
IV. Abstraction

What is a phrasal verb? “A phrasal verb is a phrase that consists of

a verb and another element such as a
preposition or an adverb.”

When parts of a phrasal verb are

isolated, its meaning will be different.

Let’s take this example:

Althea didn’t gave up in answering

the difficult math problem.

What phrasal verb is used in the

sentence? “gave up”

They caught the robber who break in

the bank.

What phrasal verb is used in the

sentence? “break in”

The fireman put the fire out from the

burning building.

What phrasal verb is used in the

sentence? “put out”

If we use them separately, will it

have the same meaning? “No Ma’am.”

Therefore, what can you say about “Once they’re used independently it will
using phrasal verbs? yield a different meaning.”

Give me examples of phrasal verbs

and tell me its meaning. Then, make
a sentence out of it.
“The bus broke down a kilometer away
from destination.”

“He got over the issue that he was not

promoted.”

“The woman tried to get up after slipping.”

(Students’ answers may vary.)

V. Application

Our activity for today is called: Phrasal

Verbs Jeopardy

I will divide the class into four teams.

Try to identify the phrasal verbs in

given sentences. I have here a board
with grids with verbs at the top and
points below.

Each team will have a representative.

As you hear the go signal, the first

student to raise his/her hand and give
the correct phrasal verb wins the
amount of points in the square. The
winning team gets to choose the next
square. If a student answers
incorrectly, it goes to the other teams.

Do you have a question? “None Ma’am.”

Are my instructions clear? “Yes Maam!”

Let’s start the game! (The students will play the quiz game.)
