3. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The UTG-0411, 0412 and UTG-0413 Sieve Shakers impart a circular motion to the material being sieved so that
it makes a slow progression over the surface of the sieve. They are ideal for on-site and heavy duty applications
when heavy or large bulk samples are to be analyzed.

They are equipped with a dynamic power source which ensures the right vibration is imparted to the sieves and
sample for fast, accurate and reproducible tests. The vertical movement is fixed to ensure the sample spends
maximum time on the sieve surface. The unique vibratory action also helps keep the apertures clear and free
from binding.

The UTEST Sieve Shakers are fitted with a very efficient clamping device that ensures sieves are held firmly
without over-tightening and allows them to be quickly removed and replaced. The timer can be preset for any
duration up to 60 minutes.

The UTG-0412 and 0413 models have an additional frequency adjustment pot. Only UTG-0413 model is
compatible with the 400 mm sieve.

UTG 041X series meet the requirements of CE norms for safety and health of operator and the standards EN 932-
5; ISO 565, 3310-1, 3310-2, ASTM E11, 323; BS 410-1, 410-2 in terms of its technical properties.

SIEVE SHAKER

The unique action of this Sieve Shaker does a circular motion to the material being sieved so that it makes a
slow progression over the surface of the sieve. At the same time, a rapid vertical movement agitates the sample
which assists in clearing the apertures. A time switch is incorporated to set tests of varying duration.

This machine may be operated through a standard 13 amp socket outlet when fitted with an appropriate 3 pin
plug fused in accordance with the label.

The power cable is coded as follows:

Power Connection
Brown wire L Live or Power
Blue wire N Neutral
Green/Yellow wire E Earth or Ground

4. INSTALLATION

ASSEMBLY
 Screw a hexagon nut as far as possible onto each of the two clamping rods followed by a plain washer.
 Screw the rods fully into the location plate and tighten the nuts.
 Position the shaker on a suitable level rigid and robust surface (placing the machine on a level surface ensures
even distribution of the sample over the sieves)

FRONT PANEL
 Power warning light (green), illuminates when power is supplied to the machine.
 Mains warning light (red), illuminates when the main connection is done. It corresponds if the mains is active.
 Timer 10 – 60 minutes turn clockwise to set duration of test, this also starts the device providing that the mains
switch is on. At the end of the set time the device stops automatically.
 Frequency control button is active when you turn the timer to the test time. You can adjust the frequency of the
shake by turning the button clockwise (for UTG-0412.0413 versions).

6. OPERATION
SIEVE STACKING
Place the receiver centrally into the appropriate recess in the location plate. Stack the required number of sieves on top of
the receiver. Place the sample in the top sieve and fit the lid.

FITTING the CLAMP PLATE

Locate the clamp plate onto the two rods and slide down squarely onto the lid of the sieve stack. Unscrew the hand wheels
until there is approximately a gap of 5mm between the lower face of the hand wheel and the washer, apply downward
pressure to the clamp plate and tighten the locking levers. The levers should be positioned pointing downwards; they may
be repositioned by pulling outwards and rotating to the correct position. Fully tighten the hand wheels simultaneously to
ensure that the clamp plate is square.

Ensure the mains switch is on. Start the machine by turning the timer knob clockwise to the desired duration of the test.
The machine may be stopped at any time during operation by turning the timer knob fully anticlockwise to the zero position.
At the end of the test the clamp plate and sieve stack may be removed in the reverse order to which they were assembled.

7. MAINTENANCE

The Sieve Shaker is maintenance free other than keeping it clean and free from debris, especially with regard to the
recesses in the location plate. The external surfaces may be cleaned using a mild detergent solution; under no
circumstances should solvents be used. Periodically lightly oil the clamping mechanisms and rods.
