    About Manzana and Fruitvale Branch


    Founded in 1902, originally specialized in orchard and farm
    insurance
    After many acquisitions, it became 2nd largest home and
    commercial property insurer in California by 1953
    Its growth began to falter in 1970s due to high interest rates and
    intense competition from Golden Gate Casualty
    By 1988, the two companies were in a virtual tie for the first place in
    the property market.
    In 1989, Manzana was acquired by Banque du Soleil, a
    multinational financial services company and a new management
    was installed.
    Attention was diverted to tightening the underwriting standards,
    regaining market share, and reducing operating expenses.
