Abstract

The report is discussing a case study of a company called Evans Wholesale Supply and

Distribution Company. The Company offers many services such as selling parts, equipment and

supplies and it also has a service department. The company was bought from the original owner

by Alex and beside being the owner of the company, he is the CEO and the Precedent of the

company. Due to some changes in the business situation Alex take an action to transfer the

company structure into a team-based structure. Alex decides to proceed with this action after two

months from the day he announced therefore there wasn’t enough time to plan for this huge

movement.

The researcher advises Alex to first inform the stockholder about this idea to take their

approval and opinion, secondly, Alex needs to create a team to study how the company are going

to implement the new system and last, Alex needs to check his employee whither they are

capable of the change and how they are going to be trained.

Introduction
Evans RV is a company that supplies and fixes a vehicles-motor home equipment. The

company was bought five years back by Alex and besides being the owner of the company, he is

the CEO and the President of the company. Alex decides to take the company from the current

structure into a Team-Based organization without sharing the idea with the stockholders

therefore this report is discussing the impact of this type of decision and how was the procedure

will be much better if there was some study and sharing the idea before implementing it.

Objective

In order to describe the impact of implementing a team-based organization in RV

Company, the research is expected to achieve the following objective.

1. To Evaluate the mistakes made by the owner of the Company by implementing a Team-
based organization in the organization.
2. To be a consultant to advise the owner of the business on how to correct his mistakes.
3. To discuss how to put the employees together in teams based on the existing
organizational chart of the company.
Question and Answer

The First Question is how to Evaluate the Mistakes done by Alex

As a human being; mistake is possible especially if the person was under pressure due to

changes in the business circumstances, some mistake occurs because of the speed in making

decisions while other is to resolve karma. From the case study the researcher notices some

mistake done from Alex; the first mistake was taking a personal decision without referring to the

stockholder and the top management not only this, the decision was based on what he hear and

read, the second mistake was the time he takes to make the decision without following the proper

way of the planning and the last mistake was that he didn’t study whether his employees are

capable and keen of the changing to the new organization system or not.

To create any new system the Company needs many factors to implement the system, the

first one is to communicate with the stockholder to get their support and approval (because

treating stockholder like assistant team members mean you keep them informed, solicit their

input, and work to satisfy their need and expectation), after that to communicate with the top

management to do some high-level planning during the initiation to verify that it is likely the

movement can be applied in a short time duration or not. This will let to create a committee or to

do the study to study the case with setting all the rules and restriction and the date to implement

the new system and whether the organization need to implement this type of system or not, this

was the main mistake Alex made is to take a decision of changing the organization into a Team-

Based Organization very quick and into a limited time period of two months, that will lead to

have a conflict on the company goals and vision because the risk of transformation has not been

studied.
One of the key responsibilities of any CEO is to see if the needed end date for a system or

project can be met and to create option to make it happen all before the executing start and to

create an option it's leads us to the Plan Management process involves documenting how the

team will plan, manage and control it. This answer that how Alex skips all these steps and

announce that starting from the first of October the company will change into a team-based

organization within two months only. By not having the proper planning of the movement, it will

occur a lot of obstacle and it may likely fail.

Staff and Team members are referring to all the employees whose working at the

organization and having responsibility, rules and rights. To let the company, succeed the Top

management need to evaluate the team members, therefore, they will know whether the human

recourses they have can let them reach their goals or not by improving them and register them to

related courses and provide them with proper training. Most of the employees are veterans of the

RV industry at Evans this lead that these categories have the old mentality of the working style

and may resist to change while the rest of the employee are very young they will accept to work

under this type of organization and whether they have the capability to study and learning the

new way of working. Although whether the management have enough knowledge of this type of

organization and how to work with it.

The Second Question is how to Advises Alex

The researcher believes that if he gets an offer to be Alex’s consultant there are many

things need to be informed to Alex before implementing the new system at the organization and

those are the solution of the main mistake Alex did when he announced that after two months the

organization will change in to a Team-Based Organization.

First Alex need to create a statement shown the purpose of changing to the team-based

organization along with the benefits of the changes the company, after that Alex need to set a

meeting with all Stockholder to present to them the new idea of the company and how does this

step will affect the income in a good way and increase the revenue of the company, informing

them about the idea before the implementation shows how much Alex respect his Partners and

how much he cares about the business.

After getting the initial approval from the board, Alex needs to set a meeting with the top

management to start doing the feasibility study and to set the goal of the huge movement and

how will the company work on it. This stage is very important because it will let Alex to know

wither the employee are willing to cope with this change or not and who will be chosen to

choose the team members and the leader; this team will consist of the stakeholder, manager,

supervisor and employee that will make sure every aspect of the company is taken into

consideration.

The next step needs a lot of time due to transferring the authority and the power from the

manager to the team member and it will be very critical. Although in this step Alex will need to

set with the all employees to inform them about the plan and how it is going to affect the

company and their way of working due to the new change.

The Third Question is how to Fit the employee in a team

As shown in the case study and in figure 1 that the company has crowded at the top level

and poor communication at the bottom and the structure of the company is very traditional due to

the number of Vice President for each department, this will lead to not let the idea transmission

very fast or rear to get it which will affect the productivity, although the structure type is not fit

with the Team-Based Structure due to the number of the vice president.

Figure 1: The current chart of the organization

Team-Based Structure
This type of organization comprises a team or group that will run the organization's work

and it will give the team members the authority to make decisions due to not have a rigid bond.

1- Stronger communication [ CITATION Qua19 \l 1033 ]

Due to the fewer managers and supervisors, the communication will be much stronger and faster.

Team-Based Structure is poor with the numerous layers that the employee needs to take

permission or to go through to reach the top management to implement a new idea. On other
hand the Team Base Structure is depended allot on the team player and the leadership, therefore,

the organization is requesting for a greater number of leaderships, meanwhile not all the

employee are a good team player; some employee is working more efficiently by their own and

working on team or group will decrease their efficiency.

2- Faster problem solving [ CITATION Qua19 \l 1033 ]

Due to the stronger and faster communication, it will lead to having a very fast and quick

problem solving due to the speed of sharing the information.

3- Muscular productivity [ CITATION Qua19 \l 1033 ]

Another advantage is to have strong and muscular productivity due to brainstorming and

working as one team. However, that will occur to the instability if the leaderships are not strong

enough and the other team not performing well. Another one that if some team member is

relying on another one due to the lack of their experience and knowledge.

To avoid all the disadvantages and to implement the team-based structure; the team must

be a combination of experience and nonexperience staff from all the departments from the

current structure. All teams must be balanced in the number of team players, and the type of

knowledge and experience. As shown in figure 2 considering that there are four departments in

Evans RV that mean that there must be four teams mixed with old and young staff and to create

another team under the name of marketing team and it must have younger team member due to

the new technology system and how does the new generation are thinking.

Conclusion

The case study has shown that the decision made by Alex was a very quick decision

while it is a good idea to change the organizational structure into a team-based structure still the

way of implementing it was wrong. Good planning needs to do a feasibility study to eliminate

the obstacle and to involve the stakeholder to take their opinion first whether they are accepting

to take this change, second how they are going to change and lastly when they will change. The

current structure in the organization is the problem specially to make a decision therefore

implanting the team-based structure will help to increase the productivity and sales in the

organization.
