To conduct cyclic plate load test by 30*30 cm plate to determine the dynamic properties of the soil and
coefficient of elastic modulus in uniform and nonuniform compression.
Apparatus required
Loading Jack, MS plate of 30*30 cm thickness 25 mm, Dial gauges 0.01 mm accuracy, power unit,
loading spacers, datum bars, and suitable loading arrangement.
Assembly drawing
Methodology
After Assembling the whole unit, 5 mm thick sand layer is shall be formed below the
loading plate and insure that plate should be centered with the loading arrangement.
A seating of 0.07 kg/cm2 is applied and released some time before of the start of the
test.
The loads are applied 20% of the estimated safe load. At each load settlement is
recorded at time intervals of 1,2,4,6,9,16,25 and thereafter at the interval of one hour
for clayey soils.
After recording the final settlement of interval release the load and again note the
readings when no further rebound occurs.
After recording of first complete interval next load of 40% is applied. This procedure is
repeated up to the safe load i.e. 100% and final values of dial gauge reading being
recorded each time.
q= Q/A

A = Area of the plate
Kplate = q.A/Se
