From the very start of this project I decided to fit a rollcage into the mini.

The roll cage is a

proper steel bolt in rollcage. This is to stiffen the car as the new engine will give it more than
double the power that a mini cooper had and about 3 times that of the original engine that was in
the car.

As I got a set of cobra bucket seats I decide to fit these however they are a little bit wider than
the original mini seats. As space is tight and I didn't want to cut out the rear storage bins which a
lot of people do when fitting a rollcage I thought it was best to get the seats to fit first and then
I could line up the cage.

I have always intended this car to be used on the road so wanted the option of using my back
seats just incase therefore the seats needed to be able to tilt forward to give access to the rear.
Being bucket seats the backs are fixed so the whole seat needed to move. The original mini seats
do this and have a clip underneath to hold them down in case of an accident (still a lot of
movement in them even when they are clipped down)

A trip round my local scrap yard was needed to find a set of sliders. After some searching I found
a set of seat runners from a vauxhall corsa and as the original mini seats were knackered I
cannibalised them for the support underneath and the latch mechanism. I welded two bars
between the corsa seat runners to space them so that the Cobra seats would bolt into them. This
also just happened to space them perfectly so that they would bolt into the original mini seat
brackets. I then lengthened the lever that allows you to slide the seat back and forth
One mini seat raided for the mount underneath and the latch mechanism

One Cobra seat mounted into my mini slid all the way back. I'm only 5' 9" and yet I need the seat
almost all the way back.

In my previos mini I had aftermarket brackest installed that positioned the seat about 3" further
back. Made driving it for me so much more comfortable (and also for my dad who is 6' 2") yet
even with the seat pulled all the way forward it was too far for my mum. Bless her

I then did the manditory thing of sit in my newly mounted seat and make car noises.
I made the other side but on the first attempt I stupidly make an exact copy not a mirror image so
had to grind it all apart and make it again.
My sister said she would recover my seats as they needed it. She took the original covers off but
still hasn't finished them... 4 years later! Still, without the covers on them I don't have to worry
about stray welding and grinding sparks.
