CHRISTIAN LIFE FORMATION 10

Name: Francis Kirby N. Brutas Grade and Section: 10-Vaniza (A) Date: August 16, 2021
A. Answer the following questions.
1. What do you mean by authentic freedom?
Authentic Freedom is a way of life characterized by the consistent experience of inner peace, out of
which we are free to openly share the gifts that God gave us. Authentic Freedom is our Divine
inheritance and the way that God intends us to live! However, instead of claiming this Divine
inheritance, most of us struggle through our lives, plagued by the irrational fears, anxieties and
compulsions that hold us prisoner. But there is a Divinely inspired process – a journey of self-
discovery and transformation – that can lead each of us to an awareness of the ways in which fear,
false perceptions and illusions block us from realizing the freedom that is authentically ours. That
process is Authentic Freedom
2. What are the dangers of claiming (a) that human freedom should be absolute, or (b) that we are not
free at all?
(a) If freedom is absolute, humans could be lay astray form the riches and power our world have.
With absolute freedom, they’ll be free to do things that gives satisfaction and pleasure to them,
without thinking what may happened to them in the near future.
(b) If there is no freedom, People would probably revolt, and fail. As this “freedom less society”
progresses for hundreds or even thousands of years, people will forget what freedom is. If such
strict control of everything—from slavery to speech—continues for too long, society will get
used to it, and see it as the norm. At this point, no one will even try to revolt, because they see
this new way of life as what's worked for centuries. We’re slowly losing our freedoms. In some
countries, the people are controlled heavily by oppressing governments. Hopefully, no country
will ever live without freedom
3. Why is choosing to do what we want a misguided understanding of true freedom?
“Choosing to do what I want” is a mentality of being self-centered rather than being Christ-like. It
leads an individual into a narcissistic perspective in life that has less regard for others in the
community.
4. How is “freedom from” related to “freedom for”?
Freedom from and Freedom for are both classification of freedom that we people have. Freedom
from refers to a type of freedom where restraint is absence and an individual can do anything he
want to do. Freedom to, on the other hand, refers to a type of freedom where you take control of
your own life and decisions for yourself.

REFLECTING ON FREEDOM
1. Relate an experience where you felt least free and another where you felt the most free. How does
our discussion throw light on your experience of freedom?
I felt the freest when I’m surrounded with people that I loved. My family, friends, and peers that
gave me happiness and joy. I am more open to them about everything I know. I also feel comfortable
and free with them. When I’m with people that I just recently met, or the people that I hate, I felt
least free with them. I have a shy personality and opening myself up to the people I don’t know or I
don’t love is one thing that I will never ever make.
2. Make a timeline at the most important decisions you made that have shaped who you are at present.
Write a short reflection on how your exercise of free choice forms and expresses your fundamental
freedom as a person.
I really can’t recall all important decision I made before, but as of today, the greatest decision I’ve
ever made is to open myself more freely than I’ve ever been. Before, I have always been that shy
type who prefer not to talk everyone and easily gets angry at almost everything. I tend to have a very
cold personality before, that even my parents and siblings doesn’t know whether they would talk to
me or not. I decided to change when everything comes out of hand that my family got angry of me. I
got depressed as I questioned myself “What have I done that made them blow up like that?” That’s
when I realized that no people would like you if you don’t know to like them too. Day after day, I
decided to be more open and talk freely whenever I had to. To this date, this decision is the best that
I came.
3. Cut out at least three news or feature articles from newspapers and magazines that deals with abuses
of human freedom. Paste them on a sheet of bond paper. For each clipping, write a caption that
briefly describes the event.

As the
clipping suggest, this
news took place in
Uzbekistan as they fail
to address human rights violations in their country. Their country, based on the news, had been suffering from
human rights violation ever since their last President Islam Karimov until now. Many persons in their country
had been lock up in jails, mainly due to religion cults or falsely accused of committing crime. For more
information about this news, please go to the link saved above.

This one is more tragic than the first article as this one involves death of numerous innocent people in their

country. This news took place in Afghanistan, which recently faced a terrorist attack from the Talibans (a
terrorist group) which led to millions of people leaving their home country. They reinforced rules that mainly
attacks women’s right. For more information, please click the link on the top of this article.

This news is by far, the most controversial in our country. Ever since President Rodrigo Duterte
implemented his war on drugs platform last year, he had already faced several issues, especially the human right
violation of his program. Until now, many international countries are active in investigating the violation he
committed. For further report about this article, please visit the link above.
