II. APPLICATION
Do you believe that your Filipino identity (e.g., traits and values) influences how you
perceive and actively engage yourself in political issues/concerns?
Yes, as a Filipino, I depend on how others act, especially when it comes to political problems and
concerns. We are active and aware of what is going on in the country regarding politics. When
dealing with such difficulties, Filipinos have a logical attitude. We strive to solve it in the hopes that
the people will agree. We also fight for rights, which I believe is one of the traits I picked up. And,
most importantly, we care about our countries; if something goes wrong when the government is in
power, we act quickly, and I have that trait. But we respect everyone who works in politics because
we understand how difficult it is to be in that position, and I admire them for it.

LET’S REFLECT
“ARE YOU POLITICALLY AWARE AND INVOLVED?”
1. Go to a place where you can observe any political problems.
2. Write a one-page essay on what you perceive/think, feel and act about the scenario
that you have witnessed.

1ST YEAR-BS TOURISM MANAGEMENT

“ARE YOU POLITICALLY AWARE AND INVOLVED?”

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, people have lost their jobs, resulting in impoverishment. People in
various regions of Tagum City are having difficulty meeting their daily needs, as can be observed.
Others become destitute and hungry. I wonder how they would deal with the situation because going
without anything is difficult. I feel sorry for individuals who have lost their jobs since pandemics alter
our lives drastically. But I suppose there's always a way out of a situation like this. Regardless of the
current situation, work chances still exist; all we need to do today is act quickly and not waste any
more time.
I'm concerned about people who don't know what to do to meet their necessities since, aside from
not having a job, they've lost faith in their ability to find work due to fewer opportunities. I believe the
local administration will provide opportunities and assistance to residents. I was concerned and
saddened that everyone was affected at the same time as the pandemic began. Though I recognize
that not everyone is fortunate enough to be happy and that some people are unfortunate in life, that
does not imply that we will not find a way to be joyful. Life looks challenging when you are born into
a poor or insecure family. Because Filipinos are capable of overcoming adversity, we never gave up
or lost hope in the face of the pandemic and other challenges.
I've seen some of our community's poorest areas, and I've noticed that they remain pleased and have
a grin on their faces, which are characteristics that are distinctive to Filipinos. We never attempt to
stress ourselves out, so even if we don't have anything, we can still display positive sentiments, which
I adore. It is not news that people still cannot or will not find work because our country cannot provide
jobs for everyone. That is why, despite our best efforts, we have not been able to eradicate poverty
in our country.
Nonetheless, I believe it would be preferable if we tried to figure out something on our own. Living is
costly, and individuals should understand that nothing comes for free. I'm also hoping that this political
issue will serve as a wake-up call for our government to act and assist others. It will take a long time
to plan, but I am excited for everyone to have the opportunity to work permanently.
