This visual art is the artwork of a famous Filipino painter, Carlos “Botong” Francisco,
entitled Bayanihan. This artwork refers to the unity in a community and cooperation. The
artwork depicts and shows the old Filipino attributes in helping their neighbors in relocating
their house through gathering enough volunteers to lift the house and transfer it to another
location.

This artwork really touches me because of its wonderful meaning towards how people
should response to one another’s problem. This proves to us that even the biggest problem can
be solved when we all help each other without putting others down. The title Bayanihan comes
from the root word “bayani” which means a hero. This shows us how we can be a hero and how
we can help others problem to lessen the burdens of life. In representing the objects in the
artwork, the bamboos that were used to carry the house can represent the bond or how the
connection or unity of the people can be strong enough to carry one’s problem. In other words,
it lessens the burden of life. However, the bahay kubo or the house represents the problems or
burden. This concludes us that we all are hero when we contribute in lightening other people’s
load or problem. This is how this artwork attracts me and touches me.
