Being startled awake from the blaring tone of your alarm clock going off in your ear seems to me

like the perfect way to get up to do something I'm not ready to do. This particular morning I woke up

extra early to go on a hike, usually something I wouldn't normally do. So I started getting ready for my

hike by showering, getting dressed and having some breakfast to get some energy. By the time I left the

house it was around 5am and time to head to the Superstition mountains for one heck of a hike. The drive

up took around 50 minutes and by this time the sun had really started to come out of its hidey hole and

say hello meaning it was time to sweat.

Getting closer to the parking lot at the base of the hike I had to drive through some pretty high

water that seemed to be running off from the mountains because of the heavy rains recently. It got my car

super messy but thankfully didn’t get stuck in any mud or anything of the sorts. Finally I got up to the

start of the hike and I’d start to ascend the Peralta trailhead. At first the hike seemed like it’d be pretty

nice and easy throughout. There was lots of beautiful scenery and because it was a bit earlier in the

morning, not too hot, but that would soon change. As I got a little further up near some trees and such I

noticed that there was basically a river flowing directly in the middle of the trail, blacking anyway of

getting across, if you didn’t want to get wet that is. So I reluctantly sloshed my way through the river

getting my shoes, socks, and pants completely soaked for the rest of the ascent upwards. After this little

endeavor I took a quick little snack break sitting under this giant boulder looking out into the distance

which was extremely pretty. There was a really neat view of this waterfall running off the edge of the

superstitions with the sun hitting the water making it glow with this radiant orangish-reddish hue that was

utterly stunning. After finishing my quick little snack it was back to trekking my way up the rest of this

trail.

A little further up the hike there was another river running down the trail blocking the path again,

but this time it was even deeper. So after exiting to the other side, not only was my button half wet but the

end of my shirt as well now too. It was quite cute to see all the locals who brought their dogs with them

doggy paddle their way through the water though which helped to ease my annoyance about being

sopping wet. I prayed that that’d be the last one on the way up (which it thankfully was) and continued
onward. Lots of the hike had my calves pulsating because every other step a rock would come loose under

my feet and I’d almost slip or start stumbling off the trail. But besides that I was having a lot of fun trying

to manage my way up and the further I got the happier I became. Soon I was able to see the peak which

was awesome because at this point I was starting to get tired but just wanted to make it through. So I

pushed hard and continued up as quick as I could and on my last little stretch saw what I can only

presume to be a rattlesnake slither across the trail into the bush in front of me. So I carefully sprinted past

that little section and finally made it to the top. After making it up there I wandered around until I found a

good place to rest and take in the view. The sun felt really good on my face and looking out into the vast

valley of mountains and seeing weavers needle off in the distance was a really rewarding sight.

After sitting up at the top for a little while, slowly getting closer to being fully dried I realized I’d

have to get wet on my way down as well. So I thought I might as well tear the band-aid off quickly and

get it over with, so I started making my way back down. I made sure to sprint past the spot I saw the

snake and after that I took my time down the trailhead. When I got back to the bits with the river I made

sure to prepare to get wet again but this time it seemed as if the water level went down a bit which was

nice meaning my shirt isn't getting wet and it only got up to a little past my knees. After being annoyed

for the last time from being soaked from crossing the river I was finally in the clear. The end of the trail

was in sight and this was one of the best parts because it meant that I had finished this hike all by myself.

This left me feeling very satisfied with myself as well as exhausted from the whole ordeal which made

me hungry. So when I got back to my car I set the GPS for Los Favoritos taco shop so I could get one of

the best breakfast burritos ever before calling it a successful morning hike.

Once I got my very much awaited burrito I was able to reflect more on my hike and what I had

accomplished that morning. I was able to push myself out of bed for something I’d never normally want

to do and it felt good to do so. So if I could gain one message from me doing this it would be to not be

annoyed to go and do new things because you might just end up enjoying yourself more than you’d

originally think.
