Reflection Paper
Introduction
After the discussion last Saturday about the contribution of John Locke,
Rousseau and Kant to Education, the knowledge I gained are as follows:

 John Locke in some thoughts concerning Education, He presents his
views on the field of education and how this thought present children
as human capable of Reasoning.
 Jean Jacques Rousseau proposes a “natural” method to educate an
imaginary boy. He found Locke’s aspiration to produce a cultured
gentleman to be a repulsive corruption of nature.
 Immanuel Kant view, having a good moral character is the most
important thing in adult life and for child’s life as well.

Body Paragraphs
The different thoughts and theories of John Locke, Rousseau and Kant to
Education:
 John Lock-methods of Teaching in Modern Realism
His teaching in Modern Realism is Formal Disciple. He introduced the
theory of Tabula Rasa also known as Blank Slate Theory. For Him our
senses are the gateways in acquiring knowledge. He emphasized the
children should be ready in facing challenges and adversities of life by
teaching them gradually from their childhood.

 Rousseau-Modern Principles of Teaching

Jean Jacques Rousseau’s goal is to educate the child while holding the
natural goodness as possible. In his educational program he tried to
avoid teaching content and focused on the progressive mastery of
practical and useful skills.

 Kant-Philosophical Thinking
Immanuel Kant view, having a good moral character is the most
important thing in adult life and for child’s life as well. Formation of
character is precondition for almost anything that can happen in
education.
Reflection

After the discussion and having the chance to read some research with these
three Philosophers and their philosophies, I came to realize that their ideas
are focus on the development of individuals most especially for child. As a
future educator it is my role to know the characteristics of each students for
me to know what approach or methods to be used. All of their philosophies
are for the benefit of the learners. For Locke, the formal disciple of the child,
then for J.J. Rousseau, complete development of learning and for Kant
focusing on the Moral Principle because it is the essential component in
education.

Conclusion

 John Lock-methods of Teaching in Modern Realism, the proper

education begins in early childhood where parents and adults has a
great role to train them. Encourage experiential learning and use of
scientific method of instruction.

 Rousseau-Modern Principles of Teaching

One of the principle that Rousseau said the process of Education
should be is the principle of growth, and another principle is a student
is capable of doing a certain thing which is Principle of Student Activity
and last principle is principle of individualization which means that the
education should be the one to adjust to the interest of the students.

 Kant-Philosophical Thinking
Morality and forming the character is the top educational priority
because life is about duty, it’s about having obligations, grown – up
responsibility and the sooner children learn this lesson the better their
education is going to be.
