ACTIVITY TITLE: Case Analysis
CASE STORY TITLE: No Read, No Write: Story of MangDeolito

Conflict Identification
Poverty is without a doubt one of the leading causes of illiteracy. People are inherently curious,
and every child desired to learn. However, due to poverty and a lack of resources, many people
have chosen a path that requires them to work from a young age. Most of them began picking up
trash to recycle as children, and some are even forced to work. These tasks are performed with
dignity and justice; however, children as young as one year old are forced to remain in an
unsanitary environment and to live in a world of dirt and hard labor. Furthermore, such labor is
paid less than the minimum wage, which is cruel.

Plan of Action
Educate the public about the oppressed, marginalized, and exploited groups in society. Then, find
volunteers who are eager to assist the masses and educate the illiterate. Allow at least one week
for the program because learning takes time. We can also organize food and transportation
drives. One of the reasons that most of these people have not attended formal education is that
they require food; thus, in addition to free education, we will provide food and supplies. Anyone
can enroll in or join the make-up school that we will set up in the neighborhood, whether they
are young children, teenagers, or adults. For them to interact with one another, we'll divide them
up into age groups.

Reflection

Because they have been forced to work so hard to make ends meet, people in poverty frequently
miss out on learning the three formal academic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics. This is
the point at which knowing how to read, write, and count became necessary for us to function in
our daily lives. Mang Deolito was among those who showed that education was not a barrier to

success, but rather a stepping stone to a brighter and more promising future. Education is, in
reality, a privilege, and no one chooses to be born poor. I've always tried to educate those
around me as a student leader. No matter how successful Mang Deolito was, romanticizing his
path there is untrue. Poverty shouldn't be a barrier to learning, and no one should be denied the
right to an education. I became aware that not everyone has the same opportunities after being
able to pursue a formal education. I want to educate as many people as I can and give back to our
community.
