CASE STORY TITLE: No Read, No Write: Story of MangDeolito

Conflict Identification

Mang Deolito has always dreamed of going to school and having a formal education. But due to
unfortunate circumstances, poverty, and the responsibility of being the eldest, his dream was
never met. Because he had to earn money at a very young age, education wasn't prioritized even
though he wanted to. Years passed, he had a stable job, and studying was out of the picture
already. Maybe because no matter how much he earns and saves every year, it won't be enough
to cover all their expenses until he settles with the situation and carries his no education
background to having his own family. And up until now, he doesn't know how to read and write.

Plan of Action

The main problem is the lack of access to education. A solution that could be done is having
agencies from the government to fund, where it searches every area and apply every child to a
scholarship that guarantees they will be supported in their formal educated until high school:
school materials, allowance, and miscellaneous fees. Persons involved are the children, the
government, and the people in the agency. The time frame will be at least ten years, supporting a
child from his first grade to tenth grade. The expected output is children like Mang Deolito will be
lessened. Education will be more accessible and possible to people who never thought they
could. This scholarship will be strictly for those who are in need, with no choice of studying
because of poverty, like Mang Deolito.

Reflection

Honestly, it's sad to realize that Mang Deolito's situation is the same with many children in the
country. In our country, the educational background will always be a big deal, and people who
have no access to it suffer, even though it's not their fault in the first place. Also, situations like
this make me question the government's competency. Overall, the case made me rethink my
actions in studying. I realized that education is a dream of many, and here I am, being ungrateful
for it at times.
