Glowing Log

by BleepToBleep

This glowing log is a very simple project, that's easy and not long to make. It's a beautiful little light source that nicely
decorates a living room.
Supplies:

You'll need:
a log. I used one that fell o a tree in my garden. :-)
A wood and a metal saw
a threaded rod, 2 corresponding nuts and shim washers
Staples (optional)
Copper wire LED lights
a drill

Step 1: Slice the Log

Using the wood saw, slice the log in slices of 1-2cm width. Depending on the result you're looking for, they don't need to
be of the same width and neither exactly straight.
The slices on the top and bottom should be larger (2cm minimum).

Step 2: Prepare the Slices

Drill a hole in each slice of the log except for the one that will go at the top, large enough so that the
threaded rod can t in, as well as the copper wire lights.
Drill a larger hole in the very rst slice, that will be on the bottom. It should be large enough so that even
the shim washer can go through.
Glue the bottom slice and the second to bottom together.
Keep the top slice without and hole in it.
You can as well put 4 staples per slice (in the radius axis), under which the copper wire lights will go, so
they don't move too much. It will also prevent the LEDs from being compressed.

Step 3: Assemble

At one of the extremities of the threaded rod, place one shim washer and nut. That will be the bottom
side.
Place the rst slice, and have the copper wire lights go around the center, into the staples if you've placed
them.
Place another slice, have the copper wire lights go through the center and repeat until you've used all
slices
Place the other shim washer and nut on the other side, and tighten together.
Saw the excess o the threaded rod

Step 4: Top Finishes

In order to hide the nut and shim washer on the top, drill a 1cm deep hole in the top slice, then glue it to the second to
top slice.

Step 5: Plug in and Enjoy

Plug the lights, and enjoy your creation!

I like the haphazzard way it's stacked :)

Thanks, I did hesitate in making it stacked straight but I like it better this way. :-)
