In any way, proponents and opponents have different views on the distinction between the church and

the state. A good reason for this amendment is it makes religion a personal choice as opposed to it being
forced onto society. Children are not taught religion in school making sure that we don’t favor one
religion over another by eliminating the possible problem all together. Moreover, teachers will not be
able to impose their religion on students making it fair for everybody. On the flip side, the good values
that come from religion aren’t taught in school, making it all the parent’s job. This prevents a teacher
from practicing his or her religion. Critics contend that this is not a pro but is instead a con. They say that
any one is entitled to choose his or her religion and not prohibited to express and practice it. It also
shows a state of progression. The church can’t interfere with the law-making process, which would
slow down the process to make new laws. Some would argue that this is bad because the government
can make laws that go against a certain religion’s set of rules. It respects both parties involved because
one can’t tell the other what to do. The other main point is that leaders of the country can’t be elected
based on their beliefs and become super powerful. It is a fair election on that standpoint when we don’t
have a set religion. Now it can also be bad on the grounds that, it can cause conflict within the different
religions. Many people will believe that they are the prominent religion and have argument causing a
problem.
