Course Title : EN 201 (Research in Teaching)

Degree Program : Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd 3)

Course Description : This course is a practicum research course that will provide prospective elementary teachers an
avenue to conduct applied or action research that will provide empirical bases to improve teaching
and learning. It focuses on the evaluative aspects of research and its scientific preparation. It
showcases the content knowledge of students on the fundamental aspects of teaching and
learning which are the bases of a scholarly research.

Student/Program Outcomes : This course provides avenues for students to display their skills and abilities to be reflective and
research-oriented elementary teacher.

Course Outcomes : After the completion of the course, the students are able to:
CO 1 – Explain the principles and ethics of research;
CO 2 - Conduct analysis of classroom teaching and learning in elementary classroom;
CO 3 - Formulate your own research questions;
CO 4 – Design an effective structure for a literature review;
CO 5 - Write a preliminary literature review for the proposed research topic;
CO 6 - Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of qualitative and quantitative research
methods;
CO 7 - Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of validity and reliability;
CO 8 - Construct an effective questionnaire that employs several types of survey
questions;
CO 9 - Use common data collection tools: interviews, questionnaire, observation and
document analysis;
CO 10 - Present, analyze and interpret the data collected;
CO 12 - Use appropriate citing and documentation of references; and
CO 11 - Present the research-based paper on an identified pressing issue in teaching in the elementary
effectively.

Course Assessments: The assessment of the learning gained by individual students will be based on the following:
a. Individual accomplishment report to monitor every member’s contribution in the accomplishment of every part of
the paper;
b. Research paper.

Grading System: The final grade of each student will be determined as follows:

Midterm/Final (Final Research Proposal & Final Paper) 30 %
Research Paper 60 %
Class participation 10%
Total 100%

Classroom Policies:
1. Everyone must observe academic honesty which is essential in any learning environment. The work each one completes for this
course must be his/her own work and must meet basic standards of honesty.

2. Each student engage in research must adhere to the standard of research ethics.

3. As a courtesy, each student has to wear appropriate attire during Google Meet. As regards the use of Google Meet, mute
microphone when not in use and turn on camera throughout the class session. Respect begets respect. One mouth rule policy be
applied.

4. Students are expected to have done primary reading specifically the modules, research manual and other course assignment
before the scheduled synchronous or asynchronous class.
5. Class participation, through attendance and discussion, is essential. Therefore, the grade component of class participation will be
based on a general evaluation of students’ participation in terms of class, group, and pair discussions, and other class activities
based on the topics covered in the class.

6. Students are expected to seek help from instructor when necessary.

7. Students are encouraged, however, to use a variety of resources in obtaining ideas and illustrations that will help them complete
assignments independently. Acknowledge sources at all times to avoid plagiarism.
