Real Time RT-PCR Covid-19 Test (SARS-CoV-2):
The interpretation of the result will be made in accordance with the Methodology for Surveillance of Acute Respiratory Syndrome with New Coronavirus
(COVID-19), elaborated by the National Centre for Surveillance and Control of Transmissible Diseases, issued by the National Institute for Public Health
Romania (INSP).
Negative results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection and are not the only criterion for diagnosis, treatment and other patient management decisions.
Positive results indicate the detection of the viral RNA (nucleic acid).
Viral RNA can persist in secretions even after the virus is no longer viable or infectious.
A false negative result could be due to the following factors: sample is collected too early or too late in the evolution of the infection, improperly
collected/transported specimen, or technical reasons like - virus mutations, presence of PCR reaction inhibitors, invalidation of internal control, etc.
