The advantages and disadvantages of taking a gap year.

It is worth acknowledging that it is really difficult to decide what a person wants to do in his/her life
after school. Usually, a person starts working or studying at the university. Sometimes people take a
gap year to find what they really want in life. However, this decision has some benefits and
drawbacks.

There are some advantages of taking a gap year. Firstly, a person can start working in the company
and test oneself in various fields. This will help a person to choose the right profession and avoid
mistakes. Secondly, there is a possibility to volunteer. It will help to get to know oneself better and it
will reveal certain traits of character, personal qualities.

However, there are some disadvantages of taking a gap year. The first drawback is that a person can
lose motivation to pursue higher education. Usually, when a person starts working, he/she gets a
salary and does not want to lose his/her job. The second drawback is that after this period of time,
many knowledge gaps can arise and learning skills can be lost. It can lead to difficulties, like sitting in
the classroom, studying and following a certain routine again.

To sum it up, it seems clear that this decision is really important in a person’s life and it has both
positive and negative sides. I think that the advantages of it outweigh the disadvantages.
