Your neighbours are planning their holidays and have asked for your opinion on where to stay. The father
is a nature lover, the mother would like a holiday without housework, and the two children want to be
near entertainment facilities. Here are some possible suggestions.

ACTIVITY 5: Speaking practice: Part 2


Look at photographs 1 and 2, which show different kinds of holiday. STUDENT A should compare
and contrast these photographs, saying which the advantages of both are. STUDENT B should
listen to STUDENT A, and then say which of these places he/she would prefer for a holiday.
Now do the same with these two photos (3 and 4) of city holidays. Think about these points:
Similarities: traffic, parking, pollution, noise, crowds, tourists, shopping.
Differences: weather, things to do, sights, food and drink, clothes, language.

ACTIVITY 6: ORAL DISCUSSION


1. If you could choose any place in the world, which would this be? Why?
2. What do you enjoy doing on holiday?
3. What can’t you stand doing on holiday?
4. What would you choose: a five-star holiday for 4 days or a camping holiday for a month?
5. When you go to another place or abroad, what do you miss the most about your
hometown and country?
6. “Holidays can turn out to be your worst nightmare” What things can spoil your holidays?
List at least 5 problems.
7. If you have to choose now between working in Argentina in a good job or working abroad
in a modest job, let’s say: in Spain as a waiter/waitress, which one would you choose?
8. What conditions do you look for in a country to live in?
9. Have you got any friends or family members living abroad? Do
you miss them? How often do you speak to them?
10. Are natives polite with immigrants or foreigners? Why?
I’d like you to imagine that a local café wants to attract more people. Here are some of the
suggestions they are considering. First, talk to each other about how successful these
suggestions might be for two minutes.
