Officials of the Game

What is the importance of having a game Officials?
Sports officials is able to bring control to chaos, understand fairness, promote safety and encourage
good sportsmanship. A sports official have the positive characteristics of a police officer, lawyer,
judge, accountant, reporter, athlete and diplomat. They are also someone who can be put in a
position of authority and handle the responsibility without being overbearing.

Who are the officials in volleyball and what are their roles?
1st referee
- Responsible for making the final decision.
2nd referee
- Assists the 1st referee to ensure the game is played without faults.
Line Judges
- They are responsible for signalling whether a ball has landed in or out of bounds.
Scorekeepers
- Responsible for keeping score and ensuring the game is played in the correct order.
Assistant Scorekeeper
- Helps the scorer keep on top of other factors related to scoring such as monitoring
substitutions, monitoring service order and recording sanctions. The assistant scorer also
keeps track of Libero rotations.

Additional Information
Ball crews isn’t included as one of the main officials in volleyball but they still play an important role in
the game. Ball crews helps to retrieve the ball on the serving team. They also let the ball dry before
they hand it to the players. So, without them, the game wouldn’t flow smoothly.

Why hand signals plays big part in general situation?

Hand signals plays a big part in all aspects, events, and etc. because it is one way to connect with
other people. It is a form of communication which enable us to create a message using gestures and
to convert our thoughts into hand symbols which we can easily determine when being
performed/done. Hand signals is also a unique and is an effective form of expression when someone
is imparting an order or authority.
