As far as I know, the ocean has not been completely explored even the half of

it. We haven’t fully known the ocean and exploring the ocean will help us know more
and increase our understanding about it. Exploring the ocean is about discovering
new things within the deep blue water of mysteries. With these knowledge, people
will know how take care and create regulations that will help conserve the ocean and
its resources, manage the resources we got from them effectively and sustainably,
we will know how we were affecting and affected by the weather and climate,
people will know and understand how to deal and respond to earthquakes,
tsunamis, storm surges and etc.
I personally want to explore the ocean floor. Even though I am afraid of
what’s in or on it and what I am gonna encounter, it would be wonderful to be one
of the people who can explore the ocean floor. According to Pomponi, the bottom of
the ocean is the Earth’s least explored frontier, and assuming the ocean floor is part
of the most bottom part, I am curious to what is more to be discovered about it,
what unusual and unexpected things are there like some undiscovered unique plants
or animals.
I think the submersibles will be one of the best choices of technology if I want
to explore the ocean floor. The Human-occupied vehicles (HOVs) would give the
scientists the first-hand experience of the exploration and their discoveries. Even the
other kinds of submersibles will help explore the ocean floor with their respective
features.
We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun. -sandy gingras
1992- 28,000 rubber ducks and toys were scattered throughout the world and
researches uses them to study more about ocean currents.
Sources of ocean currents: tides, wind, changes in water density and rotation of the
earth
2 categories: surface currents (controls the motion of the top 10% of the ocean’s
water [driven by both wind and tide]) and deep ocean currents (mobilize the 90%
[wind is the major force behind surface currents]) but both influence each other

Water as deep as 400m is still affected by the wind t the ocean’s surface
Loops called gyres (travel clockwise in the northen hemisphere) counter-clock sa
southern
If earth didn’t rotate, water will only move back and forth between low pressure of
the equator and high pressure of the poles
Longest current in the world- global conveyor belt but only moves few centimeters
per second (it could take a drop of water a thousand years to make a full trip)(rising
sea temperature causes the conveyor belt to slow down.

Wind- how does it happen?

Wind is caused by air flwoing from and area of high pressure to an area of low
pressure
When a massive air warms, it rises therefore exerts less pressure to the surface
epecially if that air is moist that rising air can become unstable and create cloudy,
rainy and even stormy conditions. That’s why low pressure systems areoften
associated with bad weather.
The closer the high and low pressure areas are to each pther, the stronger the wind.
Sun plays a big part and the rotation of the earth

Weather and climate

Most of the Earth’s water is stored in the ocean, a driving force for weather and
climate. El nino and la nina phenomenons occur when changing wind patterns
displays warm and cool water in the equatorial Pacific. Both having global impacts.
During either of these events, the replacement of cold water by warm water leads to
air temperature swings and changes in humidity that steers storms and rainfall to
new locations. Where the shift of rainfalls can affect the plant growth and areas with
drought.
Climate is influenced when heat is exchanged between the ocean’s surface to the
atmosphere affecting the climate and temperature in Europe causing it to become
warmer where heat and moisture are carried by the gulf stream northward. There is
also this circular moving body of water that spins off a main current called Eddy that
plays a major role in transporting heat and nutrients. I also learned that extraction of
too much or large amount of heat from the ocean can cause great storms and
hurricanes that causes destruction.
”Without the ocean our planet will be uninhabitable”, without the weather and
climate, the temperature might not what humans can survive with.
