Lab Task 1
Computer Hardware Specifications

Matric Num. Name

AI210376 PANG CHIN HOO

Objective:
Upon successful completion of this task, you will be able to:
 identify the primary components of a computer and the functions they perform.

Duration: 2 weeks

Instructions:

Students are expected to work individually for this lab task.

A. Suggest an appropriate computer for each of the following scenario. You should
attach technical specifications of the computer.
i) Person A works mostly on image editing. He requires the latest Adobe Photoshop
software as well as a large storage to store a huge collection of digital images.
ii) Person B is a student and is looking for a low-cost computer below RM1500. He
just needs the computer for surfing the Internet and doing his assignments by
using a free office suite such as Apache Open Office.
iii) Person C wants a small, portable computer to read e-books while on the go.

B. Fill in the specification of each of the computer component in the following table.
Scenario #1 Computer Scenario #2 Computer Scenario #3 Computer
CPU / Processor Type: AMD Ryzen 7 Type: AMD A-series Type: Octa-core CPU

C. Justify your answers for Question A

For scenario i), Person A needs a good computer for him/her doing image editing. A
good and fast processor is needed in order to increase the efficiency of work. So AMD
Ryzen 7 4700 should be good for the work. Next, Person A need a huge amount of memory
or RAM to multitask him/her works in the same time, so 16GB of ram is good enough for
image editing. Its recommend to have SSD instead of HDD drive because with new
technology, SSD can boost up the time for opening windows, application, tabs and so on. A
512GB SSD is enough for storing images and application such as Photoshop. Pen or
mouse can be use to increase the efficiency of work.

For scenario ii), Person B only needs a low-cost computer under RM1500 for surfing
internet and doing homework. AMD processor is good for opening tasks for a good speed.
With 4GB of memory, the pages or tabs that open can be smoothly change between each
other. A 500GB of HDD is enough for Person B to store him/her assignments and other
applications. Mouse and keyboard can be use to increase the efficiency.

For scenario iii), Person C needs a small, portable computer to carry around and read e-
books. A tablet should be good for Person C. Tablet has only a small body, which mean it is
more light weigh compare to laptop. An octa-core cpu is fast to open applications. 4GB of
ram can make more space for applications to run in background. 32GB of ram enough to
store applications and photos. Pen can be use when Person C is reading e-books.

D. Check the specifications of your lab computer from its operating system (OS) and fill
in the following table.

E. Show all the steps (using the operating system) to get the system information as in
Question D.

STEP 1: For Windows 10, navigate your cursor to “This PC”

STEP 2: Right click on “This PC”

STEP 3: Click on “Properties”

STEP 4: A window should pop-up like this, and here you can see the information of your
computer such as device name, processor, installed ram and others.
