Objective:
Upon successful completion of this task, you will be able to:
 identify the primary components of a computer and the functions they perform.

Duration: 2 weeks

Instructions:

Students are expected to work in a group of three students for this lab task.
A. Suggest an appropriate computer for each of the following scenario. You should
attach technical specifications of the computer.
i) Person A works mostly on image editing. He requires the latest Adobe Photoshop
software as well as a large storage to store a huge collection of digital images.

ii) Person B is a student and is looking for a low-cost computer below RM1500. He
just needs the computer for surfing the Internet and doing his assignments by
using a free office suite such as Apache Open Office.

iii) Person C wants a small, portable computer to read e-books while on the go.

C. Justify your answers for Question A.

i) I choose the Apple Mac mini 2018 for person A because it is flexibility
and diminutive form factor. It is the one of the best monitors for video
editing for a great setup. Intel quad-core, 6-core processors and Intel
UHD Graphics 630, Mac mini has even more compute power for
industrial-grade tasks. It has 8 GB of memory and a 128 GB up to 2 TB

Solid State Drive (SSD). It can load giant files and launch apps faster.
Mac mini features high-performance 2666 MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM memory
for faster rendering, working with massive files or running multiple
virtual machines. And now you can configure even more memory up to
64GB to run even heavier workloads. All of these can be upgraded, with
an optional six-core processor and a larger SSD for even high-end video
work. There are six expansion ports at the back for either USB or
Thunderbolt external storage. It can connect to camera, display screen,
printer, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

ii) Intel core i5-8250U processor can handle 2 tasks simultaneously. It can
deliver the performance required for multitasking where many
applications can work at the same time. Moreover it can power up a thin
laptop which would be very convenient for a e-book reader as a light
weight laptop is more portable. The 4.9GHz makes the processor to
execute an instruction and data faster. 4.9GHz processor has a clock
that beats 4.9 billion times per second. 8GB RAM is more than enough
for a e-book reader as it will helpful for gamer or photo editor. SSD
(solid state drive) has high speed to access data means large programs
can run quickly. SSD uses flash memory to store data. E-book can be
stored in high storage. SSD uses less power significant to lower energy
use and increase in battery life. The input and output device will be
more convenient for the user. Audio can be heard clearly with stereo
headset jack. The usage of Bluetooth can be easily connect with other
devices such as smartphone. The USB-C can double the transfer speed
at 10Gbps.
