killing his own father and marrying his own mother and having children with her.

B. BASIC ASSERTION- Malnutrition in the Philippines is caused by a variety of

interconnected factors, including health, physical activity, social status, and
economic status. Despite reports that there is enough food to feed the
population, many Filipinos continue to go hungry and become malnourished as a
result of insufficient food and nutrient intake.

EMPHATIC ASSERTION- Malnutrition remains a major public health issue in the

Philippines, according to the Philippine government. Stunting is now recognized
as a well-established marker of impaired child development and is considered
one of the main impediments to human development.

LANGUAGE ASSERTION- Poverty amplifies the risk of, and risks from,
malnutrition. People who are poor are more likely to be affected by different
forms of malnutrition. Also, malnutrition increases health care costs, reduces
productivity, and slows economic growth, which can perpetuate a cycle of
poverty and ill-health.
I fully agree in the last paragraph where it says that improper child care will
form a never ending cycle of poverty to the next generations. But I don't see what Dr.
Martin Parreño is pointing out. Is he educating people? Is he providing information to
Filipinos? What good will it do if they don't find a solution to the children's lack of
nutrition? All of this is true, but to what end? If Dr. Juan Salcedo's lecture didn't
propose a hypothetical solution on what a simple civilian can do to at least improve
the nutrition of their starving families, he was wasting his time.

ACTIVITY 9. REMEMBERING THE PAGES

1. Because we have the ability to express our beliefs and opinions, we need to
formulate assertions.
2. Language assertions are statements that are used to make or express strong beliefs
on a specific topic.
3. The best time to make statements about news in the newspaper is after you've read it
thoroughly
4. Basic, emphatic, and language statements are the three forms of assertions.

ACTIVITY 10. EASY CHAT

FAMILY
To persuade your parents to let you do anything, you'll need to make a compelling case
for the activity before approaching them, then inquire about it in a calm, polite tone
when they're relaxed and ready to listen. Give them time and be willing to work out a
compromise and show them that you're capable of handling whatever it is you want to
do. It's likely that the response will always be "no," but if you do your part to negotiate
well, the chances of having a "yes" will increase.

FRIENDS/CLASSMATE
When it comes to persuading classmates and colleagues, it can be the simplest task
ever because you already know what they like and dislike. It also gives you an
emotional advantage because this person has invested feelings in you, which nine
times out of ten would be the only incentive they require; however, in other situations,
the trick is to keep talking and prying before they say yes, Try approaching the issue
from different perspectives, make different deals, and make it sound like the best thing
in the world, because the only way to persuade someone is to make them believe it is
the best thing in the world.
ACTIVITY 12. Send in advanced
Dear Future Me,
It's been 20 years since I've written this letter. I sincerely hope that your life has
improved and become more fruitful. Today, I see myself as a vibrant young woman who
is recently successful in her job. Someone who has the ability to overcome any obstacle
in their path. I am one of the few people who has the ability to persuade others to listen
to me and accept my beliefs. I sincerely hope that you, my future self, did not abuse this
control. I hope you've persuaded them that not everything they hear is true, and that not
everything they hear is worth saying.
Spend time with people you love. Make time for your friends. Let go of that
wrong person who pulls you down. See live music. Travel abroad with someone you
care about. Immerse yourself in a good book. Always love yourself. Make time for self-
appreciation more often. Write down your thoughts. Tell your stories. Tell others’ stories.
Listen. Set goals, both lofty and reasonable. I’m hoping that we not only make a mark
on the world, but a mark on the people that we meet in our life. Go on an epic vacation
and buy a new outfit with your sweet bank account that you hopefully acquired by now.
You’ve earned it. I see myself as a responsible and caring individual who would like to
start a family with at least two children. I sincerely hope that you, my future self, will be
the most caring parent and devoted partner. Singlehood would appear to be more
appealing at times, and other individuals would appear to be more desirable. Still I hope
you were able to overcome them all.
Life will always be interesting, crazy, fun, boring, unexpected, expected a
lesson in opposition. Enjoy it while you can. Hopefully you’re not that different than me
now, but hopefully you have grown into something I can be proud of. Take care.
