Internship Discussion

How the objectives were achieved?

 To open the Demat and trading account for clients, the following steps
were performed:
o The client needs to login through their website.
o Then they need to click on Open an Account.
o Then another page will appear, asking for the mobile no. and email
id.
o Then the customer will receive an OTP in their registered mobile
no.
o They will then be redirected to another webpage asking for various
bank account details, mother’s name, date of birth, and PAN card
number.
o Also, the client needs to upload the scanned images of bank
account cheque or passbook, their aadhar card and PAN card.
o Once it is done, an OTP would be received to confirm the e-KYC
documents.
o Then the client would be redirected to the website of NSDL, which
will ask for email id and PAN card number.
o Providing the above information, will again generate an OTP.
o Typing down the OTP will confirm your registration with NSDL.
o Then it will take about upto 1 working day to complete the
verification of the documents.
o Once the verification is complete, our account will be opened with
an account id given to us. Ex- APRE7597, APRE6798, APRE0627,
MLS123, INGR456, etc.
o After completion of all the processes, the client can now trade
through their mobile app named: Just Trade.
o Also clients can download their Power of Attorney (POA) forms
and fill & submit it to the branch, so that the brokers can trade on
our behalf.

 The next objective was to learn and understand the operations of the
stock and derivative markets. To achieve this objective, the following
steps were performed:
o The branch head told us how the stock market works and how the
price of each stock is affected using demand and supply.
o He also told us about the factors that affect the price of the stock.
o Those factors were: Economic factors of demand and supply, any
political factors, any news regarding the particular stock or a
sector, or any global news which may affect foreign investments in
the market.
o He also briefed about the derivative market like futures and
options.
o He also told how to trade in futures and options.
o In such markets, a lot size is defined in which a lot depicts a
particular no. of shares. The trade is executed at particular price in
the market.
o On the date of expiry, if the price is as per the expectations of a
trader, the trader earns a profit, or else, incurs a loss.
o Also, he briefed us about the Option stocks, where a lot is traded
at a particular strike price and has a premium. The trader here has
an option to buy or sell the stock, but not the obligation for the
same. If the price moves as per the expectations of the trader, then
only the option is exercised.
o The lot can be purchased at a particular premium, and can be
squared off before the date of expiry.

 The next objective was to learn about the insurance and mutual fund
products. The following steps were performed:
o I was briefed about what exactly is insurance and mutual funds.
o Then I was told about the types of insurance and mutual fund products
available.
o Each of the mutual fund and insurance products comes with a particular
amount of risk and return.
o Before investing in such products, one should assess the risk and returns as
per the requirements.
o The risk is proportional to the return earned.
o They also introduced me to the Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), where
we can invest a fixed amount monthly or periodically to accumulate
wealth over a period of time.
o They also told us about the working of the mutual funds. They collect a
pool of amount from various people and invest them in a particular type of
fund as per requirement.

 The next objective was to learn about the technical charts and introduction to
the trading software. It was performed as follows:
o I was introduced to their trading software, how various stocks are shown,
what information is depicted by each of the columns in the software, etc.
o He also told how to open the trading window, where we can place the buy
and sell order for various stocks and derivatives.
o In the trading software, we can also query for the holdings of each client
by typing down the client id. It also shows the net buy and sells value and
quantity, along with the net profit or loss (MTM) updated periodically as
the stock price fluctuates.
o He also introduced to the various technical charts that are analyzed before
making any trade. I was also given a book regarding how to read various
candlestick charts to analyze the trend of the stocks.
o I was also asked to trade on one of the stocks using the trading application.
o I analyzed the various factors as learned before for purchasing the stock.
As a result, I earned a good amount of profit.
A picture showing the Support and Resistance Points of a Sensex around 60,000
levels

 The last and final objective was to learn how to access the ledger of the
clients, if queried upon by them. The objective was achieved as follows:
o Open the website of the company.
o Clicked on the option of accessing the back office.
o It asked for the branch name and branch code.
o After entering the same, it took us directly to the back office software.
o In the search bar, we need to enter the client id.
o After doing so, all the details related to the clients’ account and KYC
would appear.
o Click on the option of Ledger to access the ledger account of the specific
client.
o Also in the same page, we can get access of the clients’ holdings with the
current value of each stock and net worth.
What skills were earned during the internship?

 Enhanced communication skills by talking to the clients.

 Earned technical skills by doing technical analysis.
 Leant how to open an account on their request.
 Earned marketing skills by selling accounts to the clients.
 Learnt about the rules and regulations of the stock market.

Results and Observations in the Internship Company

 The branch where I did my internship had a very large customer base among all
the branches in the city.
 The attitude of the people in the branch was very friendly and calm, thus ensuring
a good working environment.
 They always had a prompt response to their clients in case of any query from the
side of the client.
 They make me learn each and everything in a good manner and thus helping me to
achieve my learning objectives effectively.
 The working hours were long, but enjoyable working with them.

Challenge(s) faced during the Internship

 There was a bit of hesitation in talking with the new clients. Since, it was the first
time I needed to talk to them, I was facing hesitation. But over a period of time I
was familiar with the process.
 There was difficulty in finding out the clients for account opening. It is the first
difficulty that a person faces while selling products and services. It is hard to find
the prospective clients. But with the help of some of my friends, I got a few
number of clients.
 There were some difficulty in understanding the technical charts, due to which it
took me longer time to achieve the objective. It was the first time I understood the
technical charts in depth. Therefore, it took me 1 to 1.5 weeks to understand the
same.
Conclusions

By doing the internship, I concluded the following things:

 Investing in stock market is risky, as it is subjected to uncontrollable

market conditions.
 Before investing in stock market, we need to analyze it carefully. Though
there is a lot of risk, correct analysis fetches a lot of profit as well.
 It is always told that before investing, each one should think, analyze and
understand the market conditions.
 Risk and reward ratio should be analyzed.
 Not only the technical charts, but also the fundamentals must be analyzed
before investing in the stock market.
