Overview:

A minority group defines people from the same cultural background/origin, religion, etc.,
who are under numbered compared to the general population. In this report, the focus lies on
Indian Muslims, a minority group in India. Indian Muslims make up a total population of 204
million. This is a significant value, contrasting it to Indian's total population of 1.3 billion
people; it only makes up a small proportion. Despite this fact, it is the largest minority group
of the emerging economy and the third largest worldwide. A significant challenge that the
youth of the minority group faces is a lack of education due to poor living standards.

Educational Problems
Indian Muslims have suffered from religious discrimination and violence executed by Hindu
nationalists since the partition of India, limiting their access to education.

The vast majority of Indian Muslims are in the lower and lower-middle classes. Besides that,
31% of Indian Muslims live under the poverty line. From a socio-economic perspective,
poverty shows links to large families. The young family members are seen as a source of
income and needed to support the older adults. Many families are trapped in the poverty
cycle, and their children rarely have access to education. Only 65.1% of Indian Muslims have
access to education, and even if the young individuals can be part of an educational program,
most of them leave school after class 5 and do not complete class 10. The high rate of school
dropouts significantly affects literacy rates (57.1%).

To solve the socio-economic problems Indian Muslims face, internal or external investment
is essential.

Government Intervention in Education-System

The Indian government has enrolled in educational programs and national funds which
promote improvements in the education system. As outlined in a 2010 District Information
System for Education (DISE) report, India has primarily implemented nationwide
improvements to elementary schools. They have increased the number of elementary schools
throughout the country and made modifications to school facilities (basic enhancements such
as drinking water, toilets, and cooking facilities), the decreased number of students per
classroom, and more computers to schools. According to the report, enrolment at the primary
and upper-primary levels has increased, including increasing the number of Muslim students
enrolled in primary and upper-primary schools.

The Indian government reported that the national investment in the education system is very
promising and should improve the accessibility to education for minority groups.

The Result of the Intervention and Data Analysis

The enrolment of the investments schemes has improved the school's satisfaction of Indian
Muslims.
Graph 1

According to graph 1, student happiness has increased by 9% (65-74) from 2010 to 2011.

However, there is a clear divide in satisfaction with education among urban and rural
Muslims and Hindus. Those in urban areas of India (83% of Muslims, 87% of Hindus) are
more likely than those in rural parts (68% of Muslims and Hindus) to say they are satisfied
with the educational systems or schools in their areas. Indians in urban areas are more likely
to have higher levels of education than those in rural areas, regardless of religious affiliation.

Graph 2

On the other hand, according to Graph 2 overall school attendance has increased as well.
Contrasting this value to Hindus, and all others you can see that there is still a significant
difference in Indian Muslims participate in secondary education or higher.

According to the Sachar Committee, graduation rates have doubled since 2010.

However, the data does not show you any numbers of the sample. The survey people might
be biased as the question might have deliberately been modified to get data in favour of the
government.
Despite the improvements, the percentage of the non-working population is highest among
Muslims in the country, according to data released by the Census office, 7.2 %. In
comparison, the general unemployment rate of the population is 4.0%.
