• The 2021 Pakistani Senate election was held on 3 March 2021.
• 52 of the 104 Senators had retired on 7 February 2021.
• PTI won 18 of the 48 senate seats up for election; of which 10 came from

Parental Protection Ordinance 2021
• The president promulgated the Parental Protection
Ordinance 2021, under Article 89 of the Constitution.
• The punishment includes one-year jail term or fine, or both,

to those found guilty.
• According to the ordinance, parents would have the

protection of residing in their houses even if their
children are owners of houses or they have rented them out.
• While in cases where the ownership rights vest with parents,

they could ask their children to vacate houses.

• Islamabad and Moscow agreed to change the name of the North-
South Gas Pipeline Project to the “Pakistan Stream Gas
Pipeline” in a protocol agreement signed in the Russian capital.

• The High Court of Justice in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) on 25 May
ruled in favour of Pakistan in a case initiated by Tethyan Copper
Company (TCC) for attachment of assets belonging to the Pakistan
International Airlines Investment Ltd (PIAIL), including hotels in New
York and Paris, as part of its efforts for the enforcement of the Reko Diq
award.
• The TCC had initiated the case for the enforcement of the July 12, 2019,
$5.97 billion award against Pakistan by the ICSID in the Reko Diq litigation. 10

Cyclone Tauktae
• It was a powerful tropical cyclone in the Arabian Sea that became the
strongest tropical cyclone to make landfall in the Indian state of
Gujarat since the 1998 Gujarat cyclone.
• In Pakistan, the outer wind field of the storm reached as far as lower
Sindh province. The dust storm also caused to uproot trees, signboard
and electric poles. It cause a heatwave in the city with temperatures
reaching as high as 43.5 °C (110.3 °F). 7

• Pakistan-Egypt joint air defence exercise 'Sky Guards-1'
• ISPR said that troops of Pakistan Army Air Defence, Pakistan Air Force Air
Defence and Egyptian Air Defence Forces took part in the exercise, the first-
ever of its kind.
• “The two weeks long exercise was focused on the integration,

synchronization, information gathering, interoperability and decision making
of committing the air defence assets in a battle to offer an aggressive and

• Prime Minister Imran Khan on 2 June 2021 formally launched the country’s
first green Eurobond (Indus bond) floated by the Water and Power
Development Authority (Wapda) to meet financial needs relating to the
construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.
• “Ten dams to be built over the next 10 years will produce 10,000 megawatts
of clean electricity. It is a step of thinking about our next generations,” he
emphasised.
