Montalvo Arts Center and Sobrato Arts Foundation

Announce
2011 ARTTEC Summer Concert Series
Innovative partnership delivers a brand new vision for Montalvo’s summer concerts

Saratoga, CA Montalvo Arts Center announces a new partnership with the Sobrato Arts Foundation for
Education in the presentation and production of its 2011 ARTTEC Summer Concert Series. ARTTEC, an
innovative educational program in media arts for high school students based in Morgan Hill, is supported
by the Sobrato Arts Foundation for Education. The stellar line-up of eleven concerts, organized by Gary
Harmon, Executive Director of the Sobrato Arts Foundation, includes an outstanding range of artists that
appeal to a wide range of audiences: from established artists to up-and-coming stars, from alternative
rock to Latin jazz, from the blues to punk. The lineup includes: Air Supply, Herb Alpert and Lani Hall,
The Tubes, Blues Traveler, The E Family featuring Sheila E and Pete Escovedo, Vertical Horizon
with Kevin Cadogan’s Third Eye Blind, Howard Jones, Smashmouth with Drake Bell, Christopher
Cross, Soul Asylum with dada, and Brian McKnight. All concerts will be held in the outdoor Lilian
Fontaine Garden Theatre at Montalvo; tickets go sale to the public on April 16.

The new Montalvo Arts Center and Sobrato Arts Foundation for Education partnership enables two
established non-profit arts organizations to work together in fulfilling their education mission and engender
work force development while presenting popular musicians and performers to thousands of music fans in
Silicon Valley in the summer season. During a time of continued decline in arts and education funding, the
partnership also presents a creative model for generating income and sustaining both organizations’
educational and artistic programming.

Through ARTTEC, a program of the Sobrato Arts Foundation, high school students interested in
backstage careers are given the opportunity to experience hands-on training and mentoring

by working directly with concert production professionals and high-caliber artists. Students will also learn
how to set and achieve goals, use real-world tools to manage a major project, work cooperatively in a
team setting, explore their own talents, and experience personal growth.

professional staff that is supportive of the creative process, and an environment
conducive to both individual practice, community engagement, and the energetic
exchange of ideas among international and culturally diverse Fellows.
