The clientele and audiences of social work

The clientele of social work are individual or groups of people elderly and retired, staying in
health care facility or drug rehabilitation center living in a home for elderly, being minority, a migrant
a neglected child an abused child and suffering to an type of discrimination . Do you personally
know or have encountered anyone in any of this situation?
 how would you describe what they are going through?
 how do you think their needs can be address by a social worker.?

They are considered as clientele and audience of social work.

Characteristic of clientele and audiences of social work

All people with various social concern in terms of being marginalized or experiencing social
injustice or having their right violated or disrespected and all those having personal and social
problems and deserve the social welfare benefits.

 Loss of job,
 Getting sick specially becoming terminally ill,
 Being old and getting tired.
 Being employed and having concerns in that children
 drug rehabilitation center, mental heath facility
 Being minority a migrant, a
 Divorce woman,
 Neglected child, sexually, physically, or mentally abused child
 Suffering discrimination and others that are alike.

The needs of sense of belongingness and to be socially included by way of insuring that one
received what is legally him or her that one received the necessary care he/she deserve, will be able
them to be empowered. Eventually, an active participant of community.

The Individual as client of social work

Individual social work is basically assisting an individual to fit in the larger environment to
someone who has been deprived space in a changing environment or simply helping an individual
improving one’s ability to cope with the changes. Thus, social work encompasses knowledge, skills,
techniques, and strategies of work with individual and family in need for help in improvement or
maintenance of their quality of life and for support in overcoming critical situations

The group an organization as client of social work

Group counseling is a form of counseling where a small group of people meet regularly to discuss,
interact, and explore problems with each other and the group leader. Example are the LGBTQ , migrant,
neglected children, elderly, pensioners. vegetarian. military service, people in conflict with the law,
unemployed, people with substance abuse hence, group counseling seeks to give a safe and comfortable
place on campus where they can work out problems and emotional concerns. Members gain insight into their
own thoughts and behavior and offer suggestions and support to others. In addition, people who have a difficult

time with interpersonal relationships can benefit from the social interactions that are a basic part of the group
counseling experience.

The community as client of social work

Community has the largest share in the clientele and audience of social work because individuals and
families are essentially members of the community. A community may exist as marginalized sector, and in
which the social services may gear towards their emancipation and empowerment in some cases, they may
constitute the majority and imposing general norms that seek to marginalized minorities and those different
form them. In this case social work may focus on community transformation to cause environmental change so
as to make it possible for individua ls and groups on the minority to achieve social well being or social justice
and respect for their rights.

The setting, process, and tools in social work

Government setting- In the case of its broad associative definition, government normally consists of
legislature, executive, and judiciary. Government setting by which organizational policies are enforced, as well
as a mechanism for determining policy. Each government has a kind of constitution, a statement of its
governing principles and philosophy.in social work to have balance principle between of individual freedom and
the ideal. The main aspect of any philosophy of government was in dispense in the department of social
welfare and development.

Private Sector Setting -Part of the economy, sometimes referred to as the citizen sector, which is run by
private individuals or groups, usually as a means of enterprise for profit, and is not controlled by the State. the
private sector is wider, and places fewer constraints on firms. In countries with more government authority,
such as China, the public sector makes up most of the economy.

Civil Society Setting -The term Civil Society is used to collectively refer to the voluntary organization’s
corporate bodies, socially active groups, and firms working in each society. Civil Society works for discharging
several economic, social, cultural, moral, and other responsibilities which fall in the domain of private activities.
It, however, serves the public purpose of securing general welfare and development. Civil Society even
opposes the wrong politics, decisions, and projects of the government. In doing so the civil society depends
upon constitutional, peaceful, and legal method of action

School Setting -School social workers play a critical role in schools and educational settings. Social workers
working within school systems provide services to students to enhance their emotional well-being and improve
their academic performance counselor .” Qualifications for this position was drawn from PQF or Philippine
Quality Standard Framework implemented by the civil service Commission and the employing agency where
license is necessary.

Community Setting -. A home or a community organization located in the neighborhood in which a


participant. A community is a familiar thread used to bring people together to advocate and support each other
in the fight to overcome those threats. As human beings, we need a sense of belonging The practice of macro
social work is the effort to help clients by intervening in large systems of society.

The social work services, process, and methods

Conducting Needs Assessment for Individuals, Groups, Organizations and Communities Careful
planning is important to social work. Community needs assessment to identify the strength and resources
available in the community to meet the needs of the children and families. It provides a framework for
developing and identifying services and solutions that support and nurture children and families., community
meetings and this information are their basis to make data’s. On those data’s, it will show what are the
problems of the community and this data’s/info’s will help them on what services they will make for individuals.

Social work method

Comprehension- Social work respects the personal autonomy of clients, supports solidarity- based
relationships in families, groups, or communities, and attempts to uphold social justice in society. Social
workers need to adopt special professional attitudes: sensibility for the vulnerabilities of clients, care and
attentiveness for their resources and strengths, assistance instead of paternalistic care and advocacy in
decision making for clients' well- being when clients are not able to decide for themselves.

Application- When groups encountered a kind of experience on where social workers distributes free
vitamins to the residence in their Barangay (Lingap Barangay). Those vitamins are essential for the babies.
Every time the social workers gave it, some kids are begging them to have some. But sadly, those kids are just
playing with the vitamins even though the social workers are telling them not to play with it. Because of that,
the social workers felt inconvenience while doing their work.

Monitoring and Evaluating Social worker effectivity after they planned and give the services, they also need
to know if the services are effective to people. It serves to answers question such as "Are activities going
according to plan?" and "Is the work of the project progressing as intended?". Evaluating tends to focus on
tracking progress at the higher-level objectives of the logical framework which are outcomes and impact of
work.

The COVID-19 outbreak affects mostly the marginalized sector of society and detrimental in the most
vulnerable situations like older, disabilities, youth, and indigenous peoples. evidently, virus indicates health and
economic impacts were being borne disproportionately and department of social welfare and development
are working on a psychosocial program on social emotional distress problem putting yourself as a social
worker answer the following question:

1. How will you approach someone whom you know has a psychosocial problem to engage in the program?

2. What are the steps or process that you will do to address the problem of this pandemic?

3 How do you find the process in conducting social work of the DSWD particularly among abused
children?

Activity 2 Data retrieval chart

Draft a proposal to a specific group of people or individuals for whom the needs of said clientele are to
