Soccer is definitely the most popular sport in Brazil. Soccer has been our favorite sport since the
beginning of the 20th century when Charles Miller brought soccer to the country. However, soccer
is mostly a men’s sport in Brazil. Women’s soccer is of good quality too, but a lot less popular.
This is not the case with volleyball. Men and women share a healthy balance in popularity. Men
and women also share a balance in terms of world titles. And men and women have both benefited
from the competent work of excellent coaches such as Bernardinho and José Roberto Guimarães.
Without Bernardinho and José Roberto Guimarães, Brazilian volleyball certainly wouldn’t have
been so successful.
Brazilians also enjoy other sports such as basketball and swimming. And after the appearance of
Gustavo Kuerten (everybody knows Gustavo Kuerten as Guga) tennis also gained popularity.
Guga influenced a generation of athletes all over the country including children and teenagers.
