General Objectives

We, Group 6 from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing 12B are allocated to plan,
facilitate, and implement the appropriate nursing care and interventions that will help in
improving the patient’s health conditions while also paying close attention to their
medical and emotional aspects. We aim to provide relevant, practical, and evidence-
based knowledge about the cases and interventions in this scope which will help in skill
development in order to provide optimum care for Postpartum patients.

Specific Objectives
Within the 8-hour span of implementing nursing care and interventions, our group
aims to achieve our goals by following definite objectives:

 Identify and select a patient who will be the subject for the study.
 Establish rapport with the patient with the means of utilizing effective and
therapeutic ways of communication. Gather relevant personal and clinical
information that will be used as baseline data.
 Create an introduction that includes a summary of the case study
 Present a genogram that contains the patient’s maternal and paternal lineage
along with the heredo-familial diseases.
 Present the client’s health history up to her current health status and conditions.
 Perform a detailed physical assessment in a cephalocaudal manner.
 Define the client’s diagnosis with the use of different sources.
 Discuss the Anatomy and Physiology of the affected system in the patient’s
condition.
 Enumerating the different postpartum maternal changes by utilizing the concept
map.
 Formulate nursing care plans with appropriate and relevant interventions derived
from data that was gathered to address and identify the needs of the patient;
 Provide significance and rationale of the medical management to be undergone
by the client.
 Carry out the interventions; then identify and discuss with the patient about her
prognosis in relation to the health status and condition.
 List down the references used for the completion of the study

Introduction

The postpartum, or puerperium period is known as the 6-week period after the
birthing process. Providing adequate physical care and emotional support affects your
future health and the emotional health of your child and family (SilbertFlagg & Pillitteri,
2018). Furthermore, this period is divided into the immediate puerperium, the first 24
hours after birth; early puerperium, the first seven days after delivery; and the
puerperium eliminated, the time required for the reproductive organs to regress and
menstruation to return, usually around 6 weeks (DeCherney et al., 2012). This case
analysis focuses on maternal changes in the  immediate puerperium stage.

In this fourth clinical experience, the students of Group 6 of BSN 2-12B of the
Nursing Program, aim to develop the knowledge and skills to provide adequate care to
the mother during the puerperium, particularly the puerperium in the immediate stage,
including appropriate nursing interventions that practice patient education and health
promotion and help reduce and prevent potential harm to the mother and child. This
clinical experience is based solely on Case Study, of course, NRG 203: Maternal, Child,
and Adolescent Care (Well Clients), Postpartum Period (Immediate Postpartum) from
Davao Doctors College, Inc. in modular learning from face-to-face as regular classes
are not yet possible.

Patient F, is a 29-year-old woman who was admitted with a chief complaint of

labor pain, and with an admitting diagnosis of G1P0 pregnancy uterine 40 weeks AOG/
39 weeks by ultrasound presents at the labor and delivery unit, cephalic in presentation,
cephalic in labor. We choose this case scenario because it presents what mothers
undergo and the maternal changes during the stage of immediate puerperium.
Women have different experiences with maternal changes after childbirth.
Therefore, participation in this activity helps us, Nursing Students, to provide the
appropriate nursing interventions to mothers  during the  postpartum period to avoid and
prevent complications, considering that this time is vitally important to them. Health and
survival are important.

In Davao Region, the maternal rate as of November 25, 2019  labor and delivery,
and postpartum has an average of 5.8, 2.9, and 1.9 rate per 100,000 live births,
respectively. This indicates how important the postpartum period is along with the other
periods a mother will go through. As future nurses, it is important to value the data and
learnings about the postpartum period in order to give the right interventions.

This case analysis could make an important contribution to the quality of nursing
practice, training and research for students and caregivers. For Nursing Education, this
postpartum case analysis  would be a good resource for clinical educators and nursing
students to use, considering that this provides important information about the maternal
changes that mothers experience within the year hours after the immediate
puerperium, including adequate management of care  for mothers during  this period.
