YOUR MODEL
YOUR BRIEF EXPLANATION ABOUT THE MODEL
Upon learning about the different models of communication, I came up with
my own representation, which I named, ‘(Bi)Cycle-of-Life.’ True to its title, my
model compares the process of communication with a bicycle.
This creative model of communication that I thought of is closely similar to
the transactional model, in which the situation where there is a simultaneous
exchange between the sender and the receiver is taken into account.
Resembling a bicycle, this model includes the following elements of
communication: sender, receiver, message, feedback, channel, noise, situation,
and purpose. The flow begins as the sender (portrayed by the cyclist) generates
an idea. He/she then encodes such thought into a message (symbolized by the
motion of the bicycle chain) through a channel (represented by his/her legs that
he/she use to pedal). On the other side is the receiver (depicted by the two
wheels) who decodes the sent message in order to construct appropriate
feedback. Throughout the cycle, noise interference (illustrated by the withered
leaves), as well as the situation of the communication (shown by the surrounding
view and landscape), are also present; both of which may have a great effect on
how the sender and the receiver understand one another. In addition to the
common elements, I also included purpose (described by the bicycle’s steering
wheel) at the very start. This will lead the direction as to where the
communication shall proceed.
By allowing both the sender and the receiver to input something in the
process and setting a specific purpose to begin with, my (Bi)Cycle-of-Life model
of communication enables the involved people to have an effective and
wholesome exchange. It allows them to take on an exploration of ideas, develop
understanding, and have fun in the process. Above all, it makes people realize
that communication is just like a lifelong, enjoyable bicycle ride.
