LESSON 1
EVALUATION
Directions: Answer the following correctly.

A. Determine the physical quantity described by the statements below.

1) This is used to describe the length of path taken by the object which is
usually measured in meter as the SI unit.
-Length
2) The total space occupied by the cube is describe by the cubic
centimeter as one of its units. This space is a _____________________ of
a cube.
-Volume
3) Jason purchased 500 g of sugar, 10 kg of rice and 2 kg of mangoes.
What quantity is being described by the given items?
-Mass
4) The length of a rectangle is 12 cm and its width is 5 cm smaller. These
dimensions of a rectangle describe what physical quantity?
-Length
5) The world record for a horse galloping over a short, sprint distance is
88 kilometers per hour. The kilometers per hour is the unit of what
physical quantity?
-Speed
B. Give the SI unit of the following quantity:

1) Length – meter (m)

2) Mass – kilogram (kg)
3) Time – second (s)
4) Area – square metre (m2)
5) Volume – cubic centimetre (cm3)

C. Analyze the problem below and provide the complete solution of what
is asked. (JUST CHOICE ONE PROBLEM ONLY)

1) The average volume of blood in an adult male is 4.7 L. What is this

volume in milliliters?
Given: volume of blood = 4.7 L
Conversion Factor: 1 L = 1000 ml
Required: volume in milliliters
4.7 L = 1000 ml = 4700 ml
1L Answer:
4.7 L = = 4700 ml
2) A hummingbird can flap its wings once in 18 minutes. How many
seconds are in 18 minutes?
3) You’ve been watching a highway construction project that you pass on
the way home from work. They’ve been moving an incredible amount of
dirt. You call up the information line, and find out that, when all
eighty trucks are running with full crews, the project moves about
nine thousand cubic yards of dirt each day. You think back of old days
that when work was all done manually, how many wheel barrowsful of
dirt would be equivalent to nine thousand cubic yards of dirt, if one
wheelbarrow can hold a load of six cubic feet. Express your final
answer in scientific notation.

LESSON 2
EVALUATION
Direction: Let’s take a look at some scenarios in the real-life. Read and
understand the different situations and provide what is
asked.
1) Scenario 1:
A refrigerator thermometer is read ten times and registers degree
Celsius as: 39.1, 39.4, 39.1, 39.2, 39.1, 39.2, 39.1, 39.1, 39.4, and
39.1. However, the real temperature inside the refrigerator is 37
degree Celsius. The thermometer isn’t accurate (it’s almost two
degrees off the true value), but as the numbers are all close to 39.2,
What is the level of accuracy and precision of the measurement?
-High accuracy and high precision

2) Scenario 2:
A group of Chemistry students is working on finding the mass of an
unknown substance. They are using a digital balance. The first time
they take the measurement the balance reads “2.5g.” They try again
and the balance reads “2.6g.” They take one final reading and
balance reads “2.5g.” They find the mean mass by adding up the
values and dividing by three (the number of measurements taken).
Their final answer for the mass of the substance is 2.53g.
What are the possible sources of errors for this measurement?
-Systematic errors. The digital balance might be
defective.

2
3) Scenario 3:
A group is trying to find the volume of a given liquid. To do this,
they are using a graduated cylinder that is graduated by milliliters.
They pour the substance into the graduated cylinder and take their
reading. One group member says there are 25.5mL. Another group
member says it’s 25mL exactly and a third group member says
they think it’s 25.6mL. What are the possible sources of error for
this measurement?
-Random errors. A human error, different persons
measured it so each will have different answer.

4) Scenario 4:
A group of students is working on tracking the growth of a plant
over an entire month. Each day one member of the group needs to
measure the height of the plant and record it in the group’s
logbook. At the end of the month the groups look at their data and
notices that the numbers went up every day except one where the
number went down, but then went up again the next day.
What are the sources of errors for the tracking of the plant growth?
-Systematic errors. The person who measured it might
misread the measurement device or the device used was
defective.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES

CREATE and AVOID BEING FOOLED

Direction: Plan a simple activity of your choice showing accuracy and
precise measurements but with little chance of committing
random or systematic error. Or you may opt to create a plan
using options below.

Playing Paintball Gun

Mary is playing paintball gun with her friend. The goal is she has to shoot
her opponent to its upper body in order for her to gain points.

3
During their 1st game:
In the first round Mary shot her opponent on the shoulder gaining
herself a point. In the second round, she shot it on the same spot, gaining
another point, and finally in the last round she got another point as she
shot it again on the same area. In this situation, it shows high accuracy
and high precision.

2nd game:
In the first round Mary shot her opponent on the right leg and she
got no point. In the second round, she shot it on the right knee and still
got no point. In the final round she still shot it on the right leg and still
got no point. In this situation, it shows low accuracy and high precision.

3rd game:
Mary shot her opponent first on the stomach, garnering a point.
She then shot it on her back gaining another point. Lastly, she shot her
opponent on the right arm and she received another point. In this
situation, it shows high accuracy and low precision.

4th game:
Mary aimed to shoot her opponent on its shoulder. She tried to
shoot on it but it passed thru above the shoulder of her opponent and she
got no point. Then she tried to shoot it again but it landed on the right
limb of her opponent and she still got no point. On the last round, Mary
shot her opponent on the left leg leaving her with no point. In this
situation, it shows low accuracy and low precision.
