At the end of this unit, the students are expected to:

1. Integrate the principles and concepts of physical, social, natural and health sciences and
humanities in care of clients with Glomerulonephritis
2. Apply appropriate nursing concepts and actions holistically and comprehensively based on
a given scenario.

Computer device or smartphone with internet access (at least 54 kbps; average data subscription
will suffice)
To facilitate the practice of students’ web navigation skills, the following rules must be
implemented:

1. The use of search engines (e.g. Google, Yahoo) are allowed.


2. Use navigation techniques as mentioned in the required readings.
3. Students must submit this accomplished worksheet through email or Canvas upload.

CASE SCENARIO:

Irio Tommasini, 14 years old sought consult with his mother.

The mother related that her son has just recovered from a week of

“throat pain”.

During the initial interview with Irio; he verbalizes that he feels

nauseated and feels weak. He also tells the nurse of the constant

headaches that he has been getting and he barely urinates. The nurse

notes periorbital edema, engorged neck veins, and dyspnea. BP is

150/100, An initial urinalysis was ordered for Irio. Results were as

follows: microscopic red blood cell casts in the urine, presence of

protein, and WBC.

Irio is admitted to the pediatric unit and the doctor ordered another series of laboratories including

a 24-hour urine specimen for creatinine clearance. Results were as follows: Positive throat culture group

A beta-hemolytic streptococcus, GFR 55 ml/min, BUN 5mg/dl, Creatinine .5mg/dl. Irio was also given

Lasix 20mg Q8, Penicillin 500mg TID x 10days, Irio was placed on a low salt diet while the doctor also

restrict fluid intake and ordered I and O measurement round the clock awaiting the result of the kidney

biopsy.

of 30 minutes.

• Based on the given case scenario, Create a visual presentation (Power point) with the following
contents:
o Pathophysiology
o Describe the importance of diagnostic and laboratory test in the given scenario.
o Nursing care plan (Priority and potential Nursing Diagnosis)
o Drug study in the following format (6 columns)
▪ Generic name, brand name, classification, dosage, frequency, and route
▪ Mechanism of action
▪ Indications and drug rationale (why the drug is being given to patient)
▪ Contraindication
▪ Common side effects
▪ Nursing considerations while taking the drug.
