BENEFITS OF SOCIAL MOBILIZATION

I, Veronica Javier will tell some benefits of social mobilization and how it affects
our daily life. But, besides of the benefits there is also a bad side of it that people
don’t often notice it. Social mobilization can also consume us and affect our life
and lead into wrong path especially in our country. So let me tell you first all
about social mobilization, Social mobilization is the primary step of community
development for recovery from conflicts and disasters. It allows people to think
and understand their situation and to organize and initiate action for their
recovery with their own initiative and creativity. Through mobilization, people can
organize themselves to take action collectively by developing their own plan and
strategy for recovery rather than being imposed from outside. Communities that
take charge of their own recovery will make informed decisions, reach sustainable
solutions, and achieve better results faster, while at the same time enhancing
their solidarity and capacity to undertake development initiatives. This action is
one of the most effective means of overcoming the trauma of a conflict or a
disaster. Social mobilization is practiced in many different ways by development
practitioners. This chapter describes the common threads of UN-HABITAT’S
practice in its work in the Asian region. The benefits of social mobilization is
helping the citizen of its community or country to have better experience in
lifestyle, convenience, and countries forces. Example in times of disaster social
mobilization will be a big help and can conduct a solution to its problem
immediately. Government, private people/corporation, and church can provide
donation, relief goods, clothes, housing project, etc. to those people who have
lost everything. Not only that, in some of provinces there aren’t enough resources
and money to upgrade their lifestyle just like the people in the mountains who
doesn’t have electricity and transport for their daily use in life. Some provided
electric street light, jobs, and education. Some are providing land for those
people who don’t have their own land and house. It is really amazing that there
are such program like these. Not only the less-fortunate are the one who is
benefiting from it, but every citizen from the country just like how the roads and
bridges constructed it help us to travel in much faster and gives us convenience.
In times of war it’ll be the most important to us so we can fight for our country
and freedom just like in Marawi. But all of these good things doesn’t seem to be
right here in the Philippines. Why? People who are in high position and rich is
using it for political intention and money. These oligarchs are earning from it
more that we know. They have every project of this communities and
government. And there are people who use it to claim physical things that isn’t
theirs, for example land of the farmers. Communities and government taking
away the privileges of this people because of money and power. Social
Mobilization does really have a benefits to us, but the people who’s on it must
have a pure-intention to lift the community or country.
